About the neighborhood
Ulverston is a bustling old market town well-known for it's cobbled streets, cosy country pubs, the Laurel and Hardy Museum (Stan's birthplace) and its Thursday and Saturday markets. It is a festival town, with lots of interesting events - egg rolling at Easter, a dragon chase on St.George's Day, a Carnival (July), an evening lantern procession in the Autumn(mid-September), Flag Fortnight and a grand Dickensian Christmas wk-end (last wk-end of Nov).It is also the start or finish of the famous Cumbrian Way.Spectacular Morecambe Bay is minutes away with miles of isolated coast and beach trekking. Piel Island (which has it's very own King) is nearby after a short ferry and from here you can charter boats for seal watching.
How to get there
Directions : leave the M6 at junction 36 and follow A590 direction Barrow-in furness until you reach Ulverston (25 miles app). Upon entering the town, you will arrive at a roundabout beside Booths supermaket, go straight on until the next roundabout and turn right into Brewery St. This is a one-way system that you follow until you reach a mini-roundabout, turn left into King St and continue straight on past the Market Square and into Queen St. The nearest airports are Blackpool and Manchester from where you can either travel by train to Ulverston or hire cars (Holiday Autos) and drive 1hr and 1 1/2hrs respectively.
