Beautiful cottage, brilliant location
Ashes cottage was beautiful. Lovely big bedrooms, crisp white bedding, very clean, newly decorated, all with views over fields and hills. We had lambs springing about in the fields making it extra special during our stay. Kitchen had everything we needed to cook a big family meal with a mix of local produce from the farm shop and Sainsbury’s, which delivered our online shop to the cottage. We walked across the fields into Staveley to eat at the Eagle & Child two evenings during our stay. Our 3 kids loved it (aged 12,10,6) with its roaring fires and brilliant decor fuelling an eye-spy marathon! The Hawkshead Brewery was very cool, and Wilfs breakfast a big hit - all just in Staveley! The other great thing about this village in Kendal is that you are just 10 minutes from the wonder of Windermere. If like us your kids are looking to recreate Swallows and Amazons, with boat trips, fell walking and proper countryside then this was a great base. Only down side was we didn’t stay long enough!

Perfect mix of modern and traditional
This place had everything we were looking for in a weekend away. It is in a lovely quiet rural setting with beautiful views from every window. The fields of sheep and the snow capped fells were a particular delight. The cottage also has a nice traditional feel but has been recently and tasteful refurbished. The underfloor heating in the bathroom and the large, comfy beds were very welcome. Although there are nearby neighbours you are barely aware of them as the windows don't overlook them. It was flooding in the Lake District when we went but we had no problems accessing the house and the surrounding roads seemed high enough to stay dry. It was very quick to get to Windermere and Kendal from here and there are loads of great local pubs, the Eagle and Child in Staveley is within walking distance and did great food. The property owner was also very friendly and quick to reply to emails.

What a perfect cottage for a Lake District holiday
We had a fantastic week at Ashes cottage in May 2017. The cottage itself was perfect, picture postcard views from every window, a well appointed kitchen, light and airy living room, comfortable beds and a bright and sunny patio. The location is great, a short walk over the hills to Staveley with it's Brewery (serving delicious food and ale) and the More? Artisan bakery, which was far too tempting for just one visit. The location was also perfect for visiting the lakes, not far from Windermere and Kendal, we ventured off on several trips around the lake district. We'll be certain to make a return visit. Thank you.

Light, airy, spacious, immaculate and well equipped cottage.
This is a stunning cottage which was a fabulous base for traveling around the region. The owners were super helpful and kind. we could have just hung out at the cottage though as the views were spectacular. Nearby Staveley has all the basics you need and a cool brewery. The only reason I couldn't give 5/5 for everything was that I reckon I wouldn't want an adult to sleep on the single beds (they could do with new mattresses). Also maybe we were being dumb, but we often ran out of hot water for showers. Overall would definitely return.

Thanks for taking the time to review Ashes Cottage and I'm glad you liked it. We have recently had an electrictian look at the hot water and this is now working properly. I will take a look at the mattresses but they are less than a year old so I'm disappointed to hear they may be uncomfortable. Many thanks for the feedback.

Beautiful cottage surrounded by spectacular countryside
Our friends visited from Canada and wanted a long weekend in the lakes. The cottage is situated about 15 minutes walk across fields (great fun walking back in the dark) from the village of Staveley. From the village there was a fabulous walk to Brunt Knott with stunning views well worth the climb. The village pub, Eagle and Child has a good atmosphere and serves excellent food. The cottage is well equipped with all home comforts, we could not have wished for a better place to stay and did not want for anything. Would definitely book again and will recommend to friends. Thank you Liz and family we had an amazing time. Jane

Perfect Ashes Cottage
Ashes cottage is surrounded by pure beauty. It is only a 10 minute drive from lake Windermere, and is within walking distance of the village Stavely. Out of its windows you have postcard views of the green valleys (as well the sheep). Inside, you are treated to 5 star luxury, with absolutely everything provided, including wood for the fireplace, charcoal for the BBQ, and board games to play on a rainy day (fortunately we didn't have too many of those). The rooms are warm and bright, with deep carpets and the beds are very comfortable, and there's plenty storage space. It is also immaculately clean. Andy, who lives close by is a wealth of information, is fun to talk to, and goes out of his way to make the stay more enjoyable. Highly recommended!

Luxurious cottage in wonderful location
The owners have thought of everything . The cottage is well equipped to a high standard and the log fire adds to the cosines on a January evening. There are wonderful views from the back patio and snowdrops were blooming in the garden. A peaceful retreat but not far from attractions in the area. We will certainly recommend this cottage and hope to return.

Perfect new year getaway
We will certainly be coming back to stay in Ashes cottage. The cottage was just beautiful and was a lot more than we expected. Perfectly and tastefully decorated, gorgeous views, and nothing beats a glass of wine by a roaring fire after a chilly days walking. A 15 minute walk across the fields and you are in the local village which is so quaint and has everything you need including a gorgeous cafe in and amongst an antique shop! I would love to come back in the summer and sit out on the gorgeous patio watching the world go by, which I can only imagine is a sun trap! Our New Years getaway will be one to remember and we cannot wait to go back soon!
