Reviewed April 8, 2015 for a stay in April 2015

Three things matter: 1. This a brilliantly designed, presented and equipped cottage, bijou but more than adequate for 3. 2. Its in Staveley which is a robustly thriving village - pubs, cafes, supermarket, butchers, bakers and its own brewery with a jumping brewery tap for heaven's sake! 3. Its in the Lake District! All else is detail. Parking on the...

I have just had a weekend here with two of my friends but I've also stayed here before with my fiancé. Everyone's expectations are different so I'll give my view on some of the concerns raised about this place and my experience first: Parking - It's tight getting into the courtyard and there isn't bags of room to manoeuvre once...

Management response:

Thank you for taking the time to post a review. I am glad you had a good stay and found the cottage suitable for your needs. Staveley is, as you suggest, a great base ( for cyclists as well as walkers) and has everything (including - as well as the eateries etc you mentioned - a pharmacy, post office (with...

I'll start by saying that for the right party at the right time of year this house would be fine, possibly even quite nice. The fixtures and fittings are clean, well maintained and of decent quality and the very limited space has been brilliantly exploited. Staveley is a nice little village with options for eating out and is good for...

Management response:

Thank you for taking the time to post a review and for seeking to make it balanced. I am sorry you struggled to get the temperature right. I was at the cottage for the first two weeks of February (i.e immediately before you) and the cottage - and shower room - was toasty warm ) even with ice and snow...

About the neighborhood
Staveley is popular with walkers and cyclists but retains a strong sense of community and is a ‘real’ rather than tourist village. There are often village events (e.g farmers’ market, history society evenings, artshows, cycle challenges and fell races) and a biennial carnival. The villagers are friendly towards visitors and the shops and local businesses helpful. As well as a butcher, village store, pharmacy and post office, the village has an artisan baker, tea room and 2 pubs. The popular Staveley Mill yard is close at hand and has a great bike store, brewery and beer hall and a walkers' café which is a favourite with locals and visitors alike. It is also home to a number of small businesses including a furniture maker and art gallery – both of whom welcome browsers.
There are great...
