About the neighborhood
Eskdale is a wonderful starting point for hundreds of walks, either on the fells or along the banks of the River Esk. The river has natural pools for swimming and is a popular place for canoeing and fishing. The river flows from Scafell, at the top of the valley, down to the estuary at Ravenglass.<BR><BR>The famous La'al Ratty steam train takes you on leisurely seven-mile journey through the valley all the way to the coast. Eskdale has close links with the Roman History of Cumbria from the impressive ruins of Hardknott Fort to the bathhouses of Ravenglass.
