Causeway Cottage sits in a short terrace next door to The Pig and Whistle, a traditional country pub and right in the heart of Cartmel.

A level walk round the corner in to the village square brings you to a further selection of traditional pubs, some wonderful, award winning restaurants including the Michelin Star L'Enclume Restaurant and of course, the famous sticky toffee pudding shop, The famous Cartmel Racecourse which holds several meetings throughout the year is only a short walk through the village, quite a sight on race day and well worth a visit.

The area offers some wonderful walking and is also an ideal base for touring as the Lake District attractions including Windermere, Kendal and Grange Over Sands are all close by.

Fair comment. The parking permit allows parking in any of the nearby parking bays. Either outside the cottage if space, or along side the shop a few metres away or along the Causeway a couple of hundred yards away max. I’m sorry this wasn’t convenient...More

Places to visit locally include Holker Hall & Gardens at nearby Cark-in-Cartmel, well worth a visit. Home to Lord and Lady Cavendish it is a welcoming stately home with award winning romantic gardens and parkland with fallow deer.

Sizergh Castle (NT) with its beautiful grounds and wonderful collection of Acers is only a short drive away as is Levens Hall (NT) famous for topiary and stunning gardens.

A ten minute drive takes you to the foot of Windermere and Newby Bridge the gateway to the Lake District mountains and lakes.

Only 20 minutes drive from the M6 Cartmel is easy to get to by road. Leave the M6 at J36 and follow the A590 towards Lake District Peninsulas and Grange over Sands.

Grange over Sands has a railway station with frequent trains to Manchester airport and is only 5 mins away from Cartmel by car or half an hour on foot.
