Woodland Cottage is in a lovely setting, with excellent walks. However the cottage is made to sound nicer than it actually is. The furniture is very old. The outside of the cottage needs painting and looks quite shabby. We could definitely hear some little feet running about in the roof space at night. The cottage needs a lot of work...

Management response:

We always welcome feedback and we always take it on board. Some of Lea’s issues though seem to be down to personal preference. The sofas are not quite new, but were delivered in February 2015. I wouldn’t expect to replace them quite yet, we buy them from sustainable manufacturers who build properly to last (the last models, exactly the same,...

Everything you need. Being picky, it would have been nice to have a compost bin. The owner was helpful. Our visit to Rampside was made perfect by the recommendation to visit the Bosun's Locker - great food at a reasonable price.

Management response:

Thanks, Peter for this very kind feedback. I take the point on the compost bin, which is an important one. There is a compost heap in the garden, and there's a metal bucket outside one can use for both ash and compost, and I will add a suggestion about its use to our usual welcome letter.

I stayed here for three nights in May. I can't recommend it highly enough. The cottage is situated in a beautifully remote location, surrounded by farmland and fields. The garden in the cottage is wonderfully large, with high and low sections and different parts to explore (my dog absolutely loved it!). And the view from the higher section is quite...

Management response:

Thanks so much for your feedback. You were most kind: it’s much appreciated and makes it all very worthwhile.

About the neighborhood
The cottage sits in a large garden surrounded by fields and has views over the surrounding farmland. In the garden around the lawn there are trees and rocky outcrops. The building's front garden is on a very quiet road which is on the coast-to-coast bicycle route. There are a few houses nearby, but the nearest is over 100 yards away. There are lots of walks nearby with all sorts of profiles, to suit all from very active to not so active. There is a riding school nearby, also quad bike rental, motor museum historic churches and stately home. Further into the Lake District are many and varied things to do.
Situated a mile north of Cartmel in the South Lakes Peninsulas of the Lake District in the Northwest of England, it is about 2 hours' drive from Manchester. 15 miles from...
