I'm reluctant to write a review for selfish reason of course . This is a little Jem of a cottage and super village. I've been coming to the lake for almost 35 years and never ventured to this end, until Christmas. I noticed over the years the lakes have become very touristy and in my mind this has been spoiled...

Management response:

Hi Rob, thank you for your kind words. We're delighted you all enjoyed your stay over Christmas despite the poor weather. We look forward to accomodating you again in the future and perhaps with some sunshine this time!

This cottage is perfect for exploring eskdale and the surrounding area. Very dog friendly with enclosed garden to the back and front. There is a porch so you can keep muddy boots and wet coats out the cottage and a laundry area where you can hang all your wet gear to drip dry. The cottage has everything you need and...

Management response:

Thank you Jon & Wendy, we're delighted you enjoyed your stay, and look forward to accommodating you again in the future. Best wishes Malcolm & Jenny

The cottage was very comfortable and had everything we need. Was perfect for taking the dogs as the garden was secluded and fenced so we could spend time out there. Great walks from the door and their were 3 pubs within walking distance that served tasty food in a traditional, friendly atmosphere. We will be going back!

About the neighborhood
The Western Lake District - home to England's highest mountain (Scafell Pike), deepest lake (Wastwater) and smallest church (St Olafs) but also tranquil, unspoilt valleys where time has changed little. Eskdale is, arguably, the jewel of these with its deciduous woodland, granite outcrops, tiny villages, ancient farmhouses and friendly, traditional 'real ale' pubs.

As you approach the famous Hardknott Pass, upper Eskdale appears in all its splendid isolation - a mini-wilderness with the summits of Scafell, Bowfell and Crinkle Crags -as described in the iconic Wainwright Guides, set in a dramatic landscape.
