Out back there is a stone patio that offers built in gas grill plus a natural stone outdoor fireplace where you can stay warm under a beautiful starlit mountain sky. Adjacent to the dining room is a galley style kitchen equipped with the latest in appliances and conveniences. Cooking is a pleasure with the earth tone tumbled marble back splash and extra deep farmhouse sink. There is a game table for an evening of family time playing board games or cards. All activities can be enjoyed with the glow of a fire that gently reflects in the warm hand polished patina of antique furniture, artwork and other appointments that please the eye. For indoor family gatherings, the family room is spacious with the utmost in comfortable furnishings. Attention to every detail is carefully thought out to provide the perfect spot for relaxing, reading or catching a favorite television show on the large plasma screen. The downstairs bedroom is furnished with a mahogany queen four-poster bed with new Tempur-Pedicmattress. Quiet and solitude are part of this room’s charm. The downstairs bath has an extra deep soaking tub to soothe sore muscles after a long hike. And for those chilly mornings there are heated tile floors. The copper bowl sink mounted on granite topped corner cabinet serve to create a unique bath. Upstairs, there is another full bath with tub and shower, heated tile floors and tile topped vanity. The front bedroom has French doors that open out onto a private balcony overlooking the stream. You can fall asleep listening to the water and feel a gentle mountain breeze thru the dormered window and French doors. The third bedroom has twin beds and an antique cedar wardrobe to store clothes. There is a window seat that provides a special spot to curl up with a good book or just daydream while overlooking the waterfall and stream.

Truly amazing!
We had a truly amazing stay in this house. We picked up our 2 oldest daughters from camp about 15 minutes away and stayed for 6 nights. Our 3 girls never ran out of things to do and places to explore. We walked up the waterfall and played in the stream. They built fairy houses out of river rocks and took in the beauty that is different from what we have in Florida. The weather was amazing and we used the outdoor wood burning fireplace every evening and my husband loved the gas grill. The house had everything we needed and the kitchen was well equipped. The seclusion was a wonderful change of pace and it was great that there was no cell phone service. If there is only one thing you do off the property, choose the waterfall tour with Craig Miller - he was incredibly knowledgable and adjusted the tour to make it perfect for our 8 year old. We couldn't ask for anything better and will definitely return! Thank you, Jim for being so generous and accommodating!!!

Relaxing weekend in the mountains
This luxurious cabin that lies on a hill overlooking Paint Creek was a relaxing getaway from the heat of Greenville. Our 4 children enjoyed swimming in a natural "pool" formed by the creek, playing games in the pasture, making smores at the fire ring by the creek, grilling by the large stone fireplace on the back patio, and taking in the quiet of such a remote location. The short drive to Dupont State Forest and Pisgah National Forest allowed us to explore the multiple natural falls that are in this area. We also enjoyed exploring the shops and great food in Brevard. The home was very comfortable and had all of the items that we needed. We hope to come back soon!!

Relaxing solitude
Wonderful week. Had great weather. Easy to settle in when it's just like home. Only disappointment was not being able to spend more time just chilling.

Time to relax
I love coming to THF! This is one place I know I can relax and just get away from the daily grind. The setting is perfect and the house is beautiful, warm and inviting. The price is steep, but the stay is worth a million! We have stayed at the Waterfall Cabin as well, and if you only have 2-4 people, this would be my first pick. If you have 6, you will want to chose the Streamside Home! Jim is very good at knowing some activities to do for the family and he is good at making suggestions for touring the local waterfalls! My husband and I came twice before and stayed at the Waterfall Cabin and loved it so much that we brought our family and stayed at the Streamside Home. Our children loved their stay! We have already refered friends to THF and they loved it as well! We will continue to make THF part of our "happy place" we go to when we are stressed and visit there to make our "happy place" a reality!

Outstanding Mountain Hideaway
The Streamside Home is wonderful home in an absolutely spectacular location. Hidden beside a rolling stream between the DuPont and Pisgah state forests, the house is absolutely perfect for a family getaway. With three great bedrooms, two modern bathrooms (with heated tile floors), and a great kitchen, the house also featured a completely modern outdoor grill, outdoor fireplace, and awesome stream-side fire pit, where we cooked a few meals. The house has everything you could possibly want, and is an incredible location. More importantly, owner Jim Sloan and his wife Kathy were incredible hosts. Jim spent extra time on the phone with us before we arrived, helping us plan hiking trips, flyfishing trips, and mountain-climbing adventures. He knew the best experts in town to help us make the trip perfect, and his recommendations were dead-on ... all of them. His recommendations for gourmet organic food (i.e., Poppie's Market) were perfect, and he ensured that our visit was a memorable one. I cannot recommend the Streamside Home enough. If you're looking for a quiet hidden home in the woods, stay here. There are myriad outdoor activities, outstanding accommodations, and Jim and Kathy will take care of you.
