The quintessential romantic mountain getaway for two! The following is a true story: Back in 1997, a certain canine occupant of this log cabin had a bad habit of chasing cars. No level of training could convince this energetic animal that chasing motor vehicles was not conducive to maintaining good health. One day the inevitable happened. The dog was run over by both left tires of an SUV. The driver immediately stopped the car, got out, and walked back to check out the damage. He was stunned to find the dog up on all fours trotting across the road. He finally chased the poor creature down and drove him to the nearest vet where x-rays and a thorough checkup revealed no broken bones and only a small laceration on his inner leg. After several days and countless attempts to locate him, the heartbroken owner suspected the worst and resumed his holiday travel plans to Florida. On Christmas Eve, he received a call from his neighbor who lived across the creek from the little log cabin in the mountains. She had just returned home from visiting with some of her family and found Rubberdog in her upstairs bedroom. This neighbor's house was his second home, and apparently he was accidentally locked in while she was packing for her trip. Rubberdog had survived alone in a bedroom for nine days and nine nights with no food or water. Other than losing a little weight, he was perfectly fine. A photo of Rubberdog, is included below. The Dog House is privately situated on 300 feet of beautiful rushing creek and wooded trails, yet is conveniently located only 4 miles from downtown Boone and ASU, 6 miles from Tweetsie Railroad, 9 miles from Blowing Rock, and only 4 miles from the Blue Ridge Parkway. The poplar logs used to construct the Dog House were cut, dried, milled and then assembled by only two men using a handmade boom and pulley system attached to a huge tree. The cabin was renovated by a professional designer. The living area features a huge wood burning fireplace with a very unique burl maple mantle. Limited seasoned firewood is provided onsite. A Bose surround sound DVD/CD/VHS/AM/FM entertainment system with HDTV with Roku streaming services and SlingTV for regular programming may be experienced from the living and dining areas and kitchen. High speed 10-mg Internet is provided along with all digital cable channels except pay-per-view. There is a new 42" widescreen LCD TV on the mantle as well a collection of books nearby. A King size bed provides sleeping accommodations on the upper level with a full bath. Expanded basic remote controlled cable TV provides bedroom entertainment. This eclectic high tech cabin is accented with antiques, quilts, original artwork and photographs. You'll find wonderful details such as kitchen tile imported from France and antique architectural plaster molds hanging above the fireplace and in the kitchen. The deck is as large as the cabin itself and features a gas grill and Hot Springs spa with moto massage. Stairs lead from the deck onto trails along the creek and through the woods. A stone firepit, improved Spring 2013, with Adirondack chairs awaits you by the creek, where you can relax and enjoy the expanded views of the waterfalls and creek. So when your friends ask you where you are staying on your next vacation, tell them you are staying "in The Dog House". Rubberdog gained his name after going under both left tires of an SUV in 1997 and sustaining no injuries aside from a small laceration. Years later, Rubberdog again preformed an amazing feat. Just before Christmas 2004, he went missing. After several days and countless attempts to locate him, the heartbroken owner suspected the worst. On Christmas Eve however, the owner received a call from his neighbor who lived across the creek. After returning home from a family visit, she discovered Rubberdog in her upstairs bedroom. Apparently, he snuck in while the neighbor packed for her trip and had survived alone in a single bedroom for nine days with no food or water. Other than losing a little weight, he was still in great health. It seemed fitting to name an outstanding cabin in honor of one amazing dog. You receive two wrapped bundles and a firestarter for $25/night. -- Repeat Guests of The Dog House may have a 5% discount, not to be combined with other discounts to the rent. CANCELLATION POLICY - Bookings canceled 60+ days before arrival will receive a refund of the deposit. Bookings canceled between 31-59 days before arrival will receive a refund of half of the deposit. Bookings canceled within 30 days of arrival are not entitled to a refund unless the reservation dates are rebooked to another guest. All bookings are subject to a $50 cancellation fee.
