Bald Head Island, North Carolina
Tijuca Tower is a landmark on Bald Head Island, one of two towers that mark a beach access in the Harbour Village. The award-winning towers, designed by two of the most prominent architects on the island, have been featured in books on southern coastal architecture and in such magazines as Metropolitan Home and Fine Homebuilding.
Tijuca is conveniently located, a short walk to the restaurants, ferry terminal, marina and other conveniences of the Harbour Village. It has spectacular views out to the ocean and down the South Carolina coast. By day, you can watch ships make their way up the Cape Fear River, toward the port of Wilmington, the same shipping lane Union warships enclosed by blockade during the Civil War. At night, you can see a long line of twinkling lights on the distant coast. You can also see the beacons of two lighthouses. Th...

Interaction with guests
We have a property manager who lives on the island and who will facilitate your arrival and handle your needs during your stay at our house. They also handle payments and signing of a rental agreement. As the owner, I am always available by phone, text or email to answer any questions you may have at any time, before, during or after your stay, about our house or the island. All guests are offered the option to purchase temporary memberships to the Shoals Club (a beach club with pool, bar, and dining located at Cape Fear, the southeastern tip of the island) and/or the BHI Country Club (for golf, tennis, croquet, fitness center, pool, snack bar, playground, bar and dining).

About the neighborhood
The island is blessed with miles of pristine beaches, as well as salt marshes and maritime forest. With beaches running along its eastern, southern and western shores, the island's geography presents another remarkable phenomenon: the sun both rises and sets over the Atlantic Ocean each day. With 10,000 of the island's 12,000 total acres set aside as nature preserves, choosing which environment to explore first can be a difficult decision. Ocean beaches stretch for 14 miles, while a serpentine tidal creek, perfect for paddling a kayak or canoe, traverses the salt marsh. The maritime forest, with its miles of walking trails, beckons hikers with an enchanting mix of palms, live oaks, dogwoods and cedars.
Getting around
Transportation is by electric golf cart. A four-passenger golf cart is provided with the house. Two island style bicycles are also provided. Our house is located in the Harbour Village, within walking distance of several restaurants and shops, kayak, board, and boat rentals, Old Baldy Lighthouse, the Village Chapel, the Bald Head Island Marina and the ferry landing. The well-stocked supermarket and hardware store, the island spa, and various shops are located in the middle of the island a few minutes away by golf cart.
