On the edge of one of 'most beautiful villages in France', overlooking the meadows, hills and river, next to the Abbaye Chateau de Camon, our home combines the charm of a traditional stone house with a contemporary, spacious home, stylishly furnished and equipped to provide a perfect base for a holiday in this stunning area. There is a lovely feeling of space and light the moment you enter the house, with plenty of room for everyone to relax in and areas dedicated to cosy or more formal eating. We really want you to feel at home whilst you are here and grow to love this place like we do, so we have tried to provide a balance between relaxing comfort and a sense of luxury. There is the added bonus of underfloor heating throughout the house.

You will be staying in a truly wonderful spot. Whether you want to spend your time winding down or fill your days exploring the huge range of fascinating places nearby, you are surrounded by amazing landscapes in all directions.
Although Camon is a tranquil village you are within walking distance of both an excellent restaurant at the Abbaye-Chateau and a delightful little cafe offering home-made local produce and regular music nights in the summer season. The sense of peace here offers a real opportunity to escape if you want to, with a gentle river at the end of our lane, with super views from inside the house or you can go through the french doors on to the pretty balcony where you can enjoy a coffee or glass of local wine. Steps here lead you down to the outside area where you can eat, read or sunbathe. You have two lakes nearby where you can easily spend days swimming, walking, eating or enjoying the water-sports on offer. This area is surrounded by footpaths and cycle paths on or off-road which lead you through a varied landscape; views of the snow-capped Pyrenees, soft, rolling hills, pretty villages, vinyards, sunflower fields and shaded woods or dramatic gorges, mountain and forest walks a little further afield. You can also hire bikes nearby.
In contrast, for those wanting a more active holiday, there are so many interesting places to visit like the famous Cite de Carcassonne with the Canal du Midi nearby. Discover the fascinating history of the spectacular Cathare Castles of Montsegur, Puivert, Roquefixade or Foix, to name but a few. Explore the Pre-historic paintings in the caves at Niaux or the beautiful local medieval town of Mirepoix. There are lively, bustling markets held nearby all year round and at night-time during July and August. If you enjoy good wine, we are surrounded by very respected wine-producing vineyards with an abundance of caves where you can go tasting the local produce.
There are many water activities offered not far away for the more courageous, like white-water-rafting or canyoning or Adventure Parks where you can swing through the trees.....and for those who love ski-ing, our nearest ski-resort with 21 runs is just 50 minutes away for those who want to take a winter break.
On a practical note......
You have many options with your sleeping arrangements. The Super-king beds can be converted in to 2 singles and vice versa. There is also a very comfortable sofa bed in the lounge, so the house can sleep 8 people if necessary. We also have a cot for a baby. or little beds for children that can be added to the bedrooms.
Bedding and towels are supplied free of charge. We do not charge for cleaning, but would really appreciate you leaving the house as clean and tidy as you can. Thank you.
You should find everything you need here to eat in or picnic out in style. You have your own washing machine, drying-line and iron etc.
There is a variety of books, maps and board-games to borrow. Beach towels are available and a range of children's games, books and activities to use if you wish. You may borrow dvds and cds to play on the smart television, which is also tuned in to French TV channels. There is Wifi available.
You have plenty of room for parking 2 cars. There are several sun-chairs, a barbecue, picnic tables and parasols for you to use.
We will be here to welcome you and settle you in when you arrive and are very happy to be available with help or advice at the end of a phone whenever you need it. But during your stay we will leave you alone to enjoy your holiday in peace unless you say otherwise!

Absolutely perfect gite in a wonderful location and with fantastic hosts
This Gite is a perfect home from home and situated in an excellent location for exploring this lovely area of France.
We found plenty to do locally with some wonderful walks and lots of interesting villages, castles and historical towns to explore.
The owners Colin and Liz are lovely and very welcoming (as is Bobby their dog) and went out of their way to make sure that we had everything we needed for a relaxing holiday.
We can't wait to vists again and explore more of this lovely area.
Thankyou Liz, Colin and Bobby for a lovely week.

Wonderful
We arrived in Camon in mid-April ( 6 adults and one 2-year old) to find ourselves in one of the most beautiful places I have ever been. The house was absolutely lovely--Liz and Colin had renovated it themselves with so much attention given to both preserving and modernizing--love was given to every detail including a bouquet of roses on the dining table. The house layout was perfect for a group our size with lots of open space for all of us to hang out in, a very-well equipped kitchen, 3 beautiful bedrooms ( very comfortable beds) and an outdoor eating area looking out to the hills. The town is lovely with a 40+ km bike trail only 2 minutes from the house. We rented bicycles (from Velomundo in Leran) and the bike shop delivered them to us. We had lovely walks around the area and biked the entire length of the bike trail, which gave many views of the snow-capped Pyrenees and surrounding villages (Camon is the most beautiful!). Mirepoix is only a fifteen minute drive and well-worth a visit on market day or for dinner. Liz and Colin also left very helpful packets of info on the area's activities, trails and places to eat. There are many lovely towns in the area and Lake Monbel, a short drive away) is stunning, even when the water is too cold to swim. Colin and Liz (the hosts) live next door with their adorable dog. They were amazingly gracious and helpful hosts. They were always available to answer our questions and we enjoyed getting to know them. They were also very non-intrusive and made sure that we had as much privacy as we wanted. I would definitely come back and recommend it to all my friends. I miss it already.

Leslie, you have just made me cry! Your review is so lovely and you say everything we would want to hear. It's important to us that people feel at home and comfortable and happy and so it means a great deal to read how much you enjoyed your stay. You were such a warm and friendly family to have here and it was a genuine pleasure to get to know you all, including dear little Owen. We will never forget him playing "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star" on his imaginary violin with his pencils! It goes without saying that you would always be very welcome back here in Camon. Thank you,Leslie.

A lovely house in Camon
We had a great holiday in Camon. The house had everything you needed (caserole dish with lid would have been handy but i am being very picky ) with very comfortable beds and good bathroom facilities. Our prime reason for going there was for walking. Liz had gone to alot of effort to put together a folder of walks inc maps. There are amazing views whereever you go with well marked walks. Liz was really prompt at answering any questions i had before going and was extremely welcoming even when we turned up too early. My only criticisim was that the lounge furniture wasnt as comfortable as we are used to. I dont think this would be such a problem for summer visitors but when the evenings get darker you tend to spend more time in the lounge area. Also being tall I find it harder to get comfortable. I would definitely recommend this accommodation.

Hello there Sally. Thanks for your lovely review, it was a pleasure to meet you all and I am so glad you found the folder of walks in the area useful. I'm sorry you didn't find the lidded casserole dish - it is there, lurking in the back of one of the cupboards! Hope you have many more happy walking holidays in the future. All the best, Liz

Debby and family, You were such lovely guests. I am so glad you had such great weather and were able to use the barbecue - I remember your son saying he had his favourite meals outside in the garden! You're welcome back anytime.

How to get there
There is no doubt that you will be able to appreciate the area best if you have a car. However, if you are keen cyclists it would be possible to get by on bikes, once you have got to the house. Bikes can be hired nearby. You are 20 miles from the nearest train Station, just less than an hour by car to Carcassonne airport (beautiful drive), about 1h 20 mins to Toulouse airport ,
(the last part is ring road, so not quite as pretty) and 1h 45 mins to Perpignan airport (spectacular journey)
