Beaucaire, Gard, Occitanie
Situated in the South of France in the heart of Roman Provence, just at the foot of the picturesque castle of Beaucaire, is this unique and extraordinary property. This lovely newly renovated 17century stone house is perfect for a relaxed holiday vacation or as a quiet inspiring retreat for writers or scholars. It is also a convenient and less hectic base from which to attend the Festival of Avignon, the Photography Festival of Arles, or the Dance Festival of Montpellier. The highest house in town, it offers breathtaking views from its extensive terrace: the castle gardens, Beaucaire's historic center, the church of Notre Dame des Pommiers with its dome and bell tower, as well as an enchanting 18th century Chinoiserie lookout tower, piercing the sky from the garden of an 18th century mansion just below. The house is a wonderful place... Read more

Reviewed June 27, 2017 for a stay in June 2017

The Maison is perfectly situated for ease of access to the "Old Town". What s nice about Beaucaire is, in June anyway, it is not crowded with most visitors being French. Not touristy. The towns old with narrow cobbled streets is kept extremely tidy and clean. Eating at the local square was excellent with several entertainment programmes as a bonus. If anyone has read the book Clochmerle, it could have been set in Beaucaire.

Maison du Baron de Beaucaire is a charming villa located in Beaucaire in the heart of southern France. Its private seclusion on a cobbled lane and its close vicinity to ordinary daily lives of Beaucaire residents, historic churches and castle remains, makes this an excellent base from which to explore and experience French culture, architecture and environs. We stayed for 6 nights over Christmas 2014 and found the villa to be beautifully decorated, warm, clean, comfortable and with a well equipped kitchen for cooking. Shops and markets are within walking distance. From here we easily travelled by road to Tarascon, Avignon, Nimes, St Remy de Provence and many more historic sites. Great location and a wonderful property!
