Hop in the car or on your bikes and travel a few miles to the Jay 'rapids' where you can soak, slide & cool off in the AuSable River. Visit the Jay Green, home to JEMS theatre and outdoor concerts and Summer festivals. Pop in to local artisans shops such as the Jay Studio (on the Green) & Youngs Gallery (just up Rt. 86) or grab an ice cream at Devins in downtown Jay or Stewarts in AuSable Forks.
Whiteface Mountain ski area is approximately 10-15 minutes from the cottage with all the other Olympic venues just around the corner near Lake Placid, home of the 1932 and 1980 Winter Olympics.
Stop off at the Ausable Chasm on your way toward Lake Champlain to view, hike or get wet in an awesome example of the raw force of nature. Catch a ferry to Burlington, Vt. for a cool day trip visiting Ben & Jerry ice cream factory, Vermont Teddy bear or about a dozen other cool destinations sure to put smiles on everyone in your family.
Bring your passport or NY enhanced drivers license to pop over the border and visit Montreal, only 1.5-2 hours from the cottage!

After 10 hectic days with family on a trip to New York State and Vermont, we needed a go somewhere away from it all as a couple. This was the perfect place, no near neighbours, the property is surrounded by trees, access to trails are on the doorstep and the sunsets followed by star gazing are amazing.
The property had everything we needed including fast broadband, mobile signal strength a bit dodgy.
The only caution is make sure you have insect repellent, being in the woods the insects can at times be numerous on the decking.

Thanks for the honest and detailed review. We work hard to make the Cottage, Adirondack Star Ridge the BEST it can be and appreciate all comments! Yes, certain times of the year in the Adirondacks and certainly in the evenings, the insects can be numerous. We have multiple containers of both deet-free and deet included repellents onsite for the guests. There is also a screen room large enough to accommodate the dining table of 4 set up there on the wrap-around deck. Also simple solutions will reduce annoying insects such as: keeping cologne and perfume to minimum, wear a hat with brim and loose clothing. More suggestions always appreciated so that our guests and others' can be fully prepared to enjoy their stay to the max! Cheers, Mike & Mini

Great place!
Beautiful setting in the Adirondacks. Great place to explore area: Close to Lake Placid, Whiteface Mountain, but perfect house to enjoy peace and quiet. Immaculate, windows have wonderful views, furniture all comfortable, huge kitchen has all necessities. Our only regret was that we hadn’t planned to stay: longer 3 days were definitely not enough. Owners -Mike and Mini- great!

Wonderful Adirondack Experience
The cottage was awesome. Everything was spotless and in great condition. Mattresses were very comfortable and just the right firmness. Netflix, bonfires at night and stars like you've never seen before. Our hosts were awesome and we would recommend this property. A great Adirondack base for trips throughout the high peaks area. Family friendly and our small dog also had a great time.

Best AirBnB Ever
The location is perfect for exploring the Lake Placid area. About 1/2 hour from various places (Whiteface, Ausable Chasm, Town of Lake Placid, Ferry to Vt., the covered bridge in Jay with great swimming in the river). Mini and Mike are great hosts and the rental was REALLY clean which, after the last few I have been to I really appreciated! The best part is walking up to the top of the ridge to watch the sunset over the mountains (take bug spray!!! the mosquitoes can be bad). If we ever go back to the Adirondacks we would definitely stay again and if it wasn't available at least look up the hosts for a chat!

Amazing views and accommodation
We loved every minute of our stay here and would come back in a heartbeat. The cottage is beautiful. The privacy is peaceful and the views surrounding our area are stunning.

Great place to stay!
The cottage was a wonderful place to stay away from the hustle of the cities and in total peace and quiet. The cottage is well equipped, better than any homes I have rented. Thank you Mike & Mini, we will be back next year!

Adirondack Visit...
We had a very nice stay at the Star Ridge Cottage. It was definitely comfortable and well equipped. We were a little sorry we couldn't sit out on the deck for various reasons. The dampness and rain did not help the sitting area. The location was great for our activities and it was fun hearing the owl in the evening.

Our stay was very nice with many thing to do. Went fishing, visited lots of sites from past Olympics. Nice restaurants. Can't say enough about Mike & Mini !!!

Perfect Adirondack Getaway
The Star Ridge Cottage was the perfect Adirondack getaway. We stayed here July 2-5, 2018. The cottage was spotless, comfortable and well equipped with everything we needed. The wrap around deck was perfect to enjoy the sunrise with a cup of coffee as well as the tranquility in the evenings. We hiked around the property and enjoyed the peacefulness, scenery and amazing views. Especially the views from the ridge which were spectacular. The location of the cottage was perfect - private and secluded yet just a short drive to many area attractions. We visited a few area hiking trails, Lake Placid, Whiteface, Wilmington and Jay. Cobble Outlook was a nice hike with great views. Jay Covered Bridge and Jay rapids were a great way to cool off on a hot summer day. Mike, Mini (and Tierry) were excellent hosts. We definitely hope to go back someday

Relaxing get-away with all the comforts of a home!!!
You can’t go wrong with this choice! Mike & Mini have a beautiful place and are excellent hosts! The Star Ridge Cottage is a little out of the way (about a 30 minute beautiful drive to Lake Placid) but that is what we were looking for! Our trip was in early March so we could enjoy some snow-shoeing in the ADK’s (we brought our own shoes but they have plenty of top quality ones for use). Mike & Mini allowed a few hours early check-in (with prior arrangements) and the cottage was ready for us when we arrived. The directions were spot on, the driveway was clear, a small walkway was shoveled to the cabin and around the deck. The cabin has everything you need (linen, towels, full kitchen, etc.), was very clean and welcoming. We really enjoyed the inside wood stove from the time we arrived until the morning we had to leave (plenty of wood is supplied). The only minor negative comment I could say is we felt slightly rushed when someone arrived to clean around 15-20 minutes before checkout but I’m sure they needed to get it ready for the next guest. We plan to return in the summer/fall and will look to book again!

Regarding our cleaner/caretaker arriving a bit early...we apologize for any undue pressure and will ask her to be more considerate of such in the future. We did indeed have a back to back rental but that pressure shouldn't be yours to bear! We look forward to your return in the Fall and hope our small canine Tierry will be able to meet your Missy. Star Ridge cottage is located a quick 5 minutes from NY State highway 9N (about 15 minutes off exit 34 at North or 30 min. off exit 30 from the South on Interstate 87- Adirondack Northway). We are the next to last drive off a cul-de-sac and one of only two full time residents on the street--making for a very quiet neighborhood!! If you have come to rest and regroup, this is the place. If you have come for peace and quiet, the Cottage is just for you. We welcome you to the Cottage, Adirondack Star Ridge. Thank you for your choice!
