Stunning accommodation for our weekend away
Stayed at Salt Herrings from 11th - 14th February 2022. Totally blown away with our accommodation. Beautiful decor, very clean, cosy, stunning, breath taking views & the owners Ian & Janis were absolutely lovely & made us feel very welcome. Ian put the heating on for our arrival so it was lovely & warm when we arrived & he let us settle in before he popped over to introduce himself which was really nice & advised us if we needed anything or any questions to just knock on their door as they were close by. There was a cd player & a choice of CD's & a dvd player with a choice of DVD'S & a fabulous log burner. Loved how the living area was upstairs & downstairs were the bedrooms, bathrooms & utility room with the spectacular views from each room. We were supplied with toiletries, towels, biscuits, tea, coffee & milk which was a lovely touch again. This accommodation without a doubt has the WOW factor & is, by far, the best Self catering accommodation we have stayed in with the loveliest owners. Thank you Ian & Janis for making our stay a wonderful, memorable break.

Amazing place to stay with stunning views
We had an amazing stay at Salt Herrings with our two young kids. It is the perfect location with stunning views! The accommodation was very comfortable and had everything we needed for our family. My partner and I agreed it was one of the best places we've stayed. We will definitely be back!

5 star self catering
A recommendation from a friend saw us book the salt herrings for a mini break of 5 nights , the 2 of us were blown away with the set up , two bedrooms , two bedrooms on the ground floor , living and kitchen upstairs and as you get to the top of the stairs the view comes in to sight and you can’t help but stop , every day we came back we would stop and just look , john the owner spoke to us on arrival explaining a few things and then left us too it but we also had the benefit of him being a near neighbour if there was an issue , Fantastic break in great surroundings and if we can we will get back to salt herrings soon

Excellent seaside retreat
My husband, my 2 teenage children and I stayed at the Salt Herrings in Cellardyke, which was absolutely brilliant. The accommodation was lovely and spotless and you had everything you needed for your stay, including binoculars to look out at the views. The views were stunning especially since we had brilliant weather, but would still look great in the winter months. The location is beautiful and very relaxing and only a short walk into Anstruther. The kids enjoyed the sea pool and the watersports right on our doorstep, and also at the lovely beach at Elie. The host Ian was very pleasant and welcoming and ensured we were happy with our accommodation and if we needed anything just to give him a shout. Definitely would recommend and stay again. Fabulous.

We can't wait to come back!
We have seen Salt Herrings and the other properties in the Cooperage (Driftwood Cottage and The Cooper's View) on previous visits to the East Neuk, and looked them up online many times when planning trips, but they weren't available when we wanted to go. Now we understand why! This is one of the very best places we have ever stayed, anywhere - it's even more lovely and comfortable than it looks in the photos. It was also spotlessly clean with extra Covid-related precautions and cleaning in place. All the fixtures and furnishings are really good quality, and the spacious living room/kitchen/dining room upstairs has fantastic views onto the water. It is also run by the nicest, most hospitable people we've met in years of booking self-catering accommodation. It wasn't just that they were very welcoming in person; it was also the way they had thought about what would help their guests enjoy their stay even more. This showed in all the lovely little welcome touches and their generous provision of basics as well as things like binoculars for watching birds on the rocks and travel mugs for taking tea and coffee down to the "sitooterie" on the edge of the water. We were really lucky with the weather so spent many hours relaxing down there as well as walking along the coast, but coming back inside was also a real pleasure and we loved looking out the window from the living room upstairs. Salt Herrings is beside the little harbour in Cellardyke, and very near the Haven which serves food and drink. It's also a short walk from there to Anstruther's harbour, cafes, shops and restaurants. We will definitely be back!

Beautiful seaside sanctuary
We had such a relaxing stay! The cottage is so well equipped and stylishly furnished. It would be a great place to stay in any season with the lovely wood burning stove for Winter. The views over the sea are stunning! Janis and Ian were so so helpful & friendly. The local area is gorgeous and Cellardyke is an ideal base to explore the East Neuk. Highly recommended accommodation

Fabulous coastal cottage with stunning view
Our second visit to Salt Harrings and it was as good as ever. The cottage is so clean and cosy with everything you need for a relaxing holiday. There's plenty of space and it's so peaceful and just a stroll into Anstruther. The view over the sea is stunning especially when the sun shines! Perfect location to explore the region of Fife and beyond. Great for the golf at Kingsbarns, St Andrews and Carnoustie. Ian and Janis are lovely hosts and made us very welcome. It was good to return and we look forward to visiting again in the future. Thanks to you both
