All of the comforts of home are available to you during your vacation at Sheep Mountain Cabin. Your accommodations include fiber optic internet with WiFi, internet TV, a land phone line, and a washer and dryer. The lower level of the cabin has a full kitchen with Silestone countertops, new appliances, dishwasher, and circular sawn Douglas Fir floors. On the main level you will find the living room with astounding mountain and valley views, along with a cozy propane stone, circular sawn Douglas Fir floors, vaulted ceilings, and a ladder that leads to the spacious loft area. The cabin comfortably sleeps 8. On both the main and lower levels there is a bedroom with a queen bed and adjoining full bath. The loft area has two sleeping areas (one with a queen bed and one with twin beds) separated by a closet and 1/2 bath. The vicinity of the cabin is rich in outdoor activities. Of course Yellowstone is the main attraction, but there are so many other wonderful things to do in the area. The Madison River has been called the top trout fishing river in all of North America. It consistently averages 2000 trout per mile with sizes ranging from 8 to 30 inches, and averaging 15 inches! It is no wonder it is officially listed as a blue ribbon trout fishery. The river starts in Yellowstone Park and then flows west, passing within a mile of the cabin at Raynolds Pass. After that, the river flows north and eventually joins the Missouri River. Hiking opportunities abound in Yellowstone National Park as well as the immediate area of the cabin. The Henrys Lake Mountains to the east of the cabin contain the impressive Sheep Mountain (10,200 ft.), Coffin Mountain (9,967 ft.), and Targhee Peak (10,300 ft.). The Sheep Creek trailhead (elev. ~ 6400 ft.) starts just one mile from the cabin and climbs five miles before reaching Sheep Lake, at an elevation of about 10,000 ft. The trail continues through the Henrys Lake Mountains and connects with the Continental Divide Trail and with Mile Creek Trail, which eventually returns to the valley floor. The entire trail, from Sheep Creek trailhead to Mile Creek trailhead is about 25 miles. The area through the mountains is filled with bears, so come prepared. Horseback riding is one of the most popular visitor experiences in the area. With rides available from one hour to overnight pack trips, there are options for everyone. There are so many other wonderful things to do in the area you will most likely run out of time before you can do them all! Our 2024 rates: May 24 - Sep 15: $374/night Sep 15 - Sep. 30: $324/night Oct. 1 - Oct. 31: $274/night All reservations subject to 8% Montana state tax and a Cleaning Fee of $250.00.

Breathtaking views from this extra clean cabin with everything needed for a fabulous vacation!
My family of six (three couples) spent a fabulous week at this clean and spacious cabin. The cabin is nestled in a valley with breathtaking views all around. It is cutely decorated with touches of western, fishing, and mountain decor. The kitchen is large enough for three cooks and the dining area easily seats more than six. The beds were great and we all commented on how well we slept while we were there. The cabin is located near historical Quake Lake, the Madison River, and the west entrance of Yellowstone Park. It is a great location for hiking, fishing, sightseeing, and just relaxing on the huge deck that circles the cabin. We saw pronghorn antelope, big horn sheep, and prairie dogs nearby. The cabin contains everything needed for a great vacation including books about things to see and do in the local area. We caught enough fish for a meal in the Madison River and they were delicious! We spent a few days in Yellowstone Park where we saw antelope, buffalo, and even a grizzly bear! One of our family members hiked from a nearby trail head and camped at a lake on top of the mountain. We also toured the Quake Lake area and visitor's center which is very interesting. Mike, the owner, is super nice and answered all our questions. On our last day there, a storm quickly passed through and then the most beautiful, full rainbow I have ever seen developed right next to the cabin. Absolutely perfect! We can't wait to go again next year!

Beautiful cabin, great proximity to hiking, fishing, and Yellowstone!
Spent a peaceful 5 days at the Sheep Mountain Cabin. The cabin has all of the amenities to ensure a comfortable stay, including a full kitchen, well appointed living room, and sleeping arrangements for up to 8. Hiking and trout fishing opportunities abound, some of which are only within a couple of miles. Yellowstone is only 30 minutes away, and the drive to West Yellowstone is extremely scenic taking you along the length of Hebgen Lake. For anyone interested in taking in the best Montana has to offer, you really can't do much better than this for the money.

Great cabin -- close to Yellowstone
The cabin was in a good location if you're looking for a bit of R&R. Close to the Yellowstone entrance (approximately 30 minutes) but not in the middle of W. Yellowstone which, for us, was almost too busy and "touristy". It had all the amenities you needed including wifi, satellite etc. (everything to keep two college aged kids happy - and not completely disconnected). We cooked two nights and ate out at the Grizzly Bar & Grill twice (yes, it was that good - try the ribs and the bison burger) - approximately 10 minutes from the cabin on Rt. 287 and recommended by the owner, Mike. If you're looking for a clean cabin among a beautiful setting and nice place to stay, this is it.

The perfect place to unwind, view nature, and visit Yellowstone.
Father and I stayed at Sheep Mountain Cabin for eight days. Our only complaint was that we had to leave! We loved its location, nestled in a beautiful mountain valley and loved watching the weather move across the mountains. Every morning we saw pronghorn and several times very close to the house. It is a very comfortable log home with everything you might need. It takes about a half hour to get to West Yellowstone from there but we found that was not an impediment at all as the road was very good and the scenery beautiful. We preferred going past Henry's Lake rather than the road north past Quake Lake, though we did visit their Visitor's Center which was very interesting. Overall, I can't recommend it highly enough and hope we will be able to stay there again someday.

Fantastic views in this pristine cabin!
We had a wonderful vacation, thanks in part to this fabulously clean, spacious and comfortable cabin 30 minutes west of West Yellowstone. The cabin views did not disappoint! We cooked almost all our meals in the cabin, packed lunches in one of the coolers provided, and spent most days in the park. Happy to have this retreat to return to after full days. Showers were a little tight and there were a few kitchen essentials missing (like mixing bowls & whisk) but I'm guessing not everyone prepares so many meals like we do while on vacation. No cell service but the wifi works. We never used the tv once but it looked like there were lots of videos there to watch. Kids enjoyed sleeping in the loft area. As for wildlife, we saw multiple hawks, blue birds, a welcoming group of Pronghorn upon multiple returns in the evening, and a Black Bear only a few miles up the road at Earthquake Lake. Overall a five star residence with five star views of the mountains and wildlife. I definitely recommend to anyone looking and would stay again. Great host communication, as well.

Beautiful, peaceful stay !!
The cabin was just what we thought it would be. It was clean and spacious. It had a beautiful porch that we could see the mountains and had great views from all angles. It did snow before we arrived so the sitting outside was not as tempting as it would have been if the temps had been warmer (no fault of anyone but Mother Nature). Bedrooms were spacious, there was a washer and dryer for our use and having almost 2 living areas was wonderful for the six (3 couples) of us. My only recommendation would be a few more items in the kitchen, (cookie sheet, baking pan etc.) Other than those items everything else was provided. I would stay in this cabin again for sure. Very relaxing and peaceful !!!

Absolutely breathtaking place to stay!
I stayed here in July with my family of 4. The cabin was perfect! Such attention to detail and even better than expected. Incredibly clean. Kitchen was well stocked with basic plates, utensils, and even spices. Kids loved climbing up the ladder to stay in the loft and playing outside. Wrap-around porch was fantastic and a great place to sit in the evening to enjoy nature. Such a peaceful place and just a short drive to West Yellowstone for groceries or restaurants. Yellowstone was also just a short drive away. Would love to return here again!
