The south facing living room provides a dramatic, sweeping view of the Madison River Valley. At an elevation of 6333 ft. and located just 2 miles from the world famous Madison River, the cabin is the ultimate vacation base for outdoor enthusiasts!
All of the comforts of home are available to you during your vacation at Sheep Mountain Cabin. Your accommodations include fiber optic internet with WiFi, internet TV, a land phone line, and a washer and dryer. The lower level of the cabin has a full kitchen with Silestone countertops, new appliances, dishwasher, and circular sawn Douglas Fir floors. On the main level you will find the living room with astounding mountain and valley views, along with a cozy propane stone, circular sawn Douglas Fir floors, vaulted ceilings, and a ladder that leads to the spacious loft area. The cabin comfortably sleeps 8. On both the main and lower levels there is a bedroom with a queen bed and adjoining full bath. The loft area has two sleeping areas (one with a queen bed and one with twin beds) separated by a closet and 1/2 bath.
The vicinity of the cabin is rich in outdoor activities. Of course Yellowstone is the main attraction, but there are so many other wonderful things to do in the area. The Madison River has been called the top trout fishing river in all of North America. It consistently averages 2000 trout per mile with sizes ranging from 8 to 30 inches, and averaging 15 inches! It is no wonder it is officially listed as a blue ribbon trout fishery. The river starts in Yellowstone Park and then flows west, passing within a mile of the cabin at Raynolds Pass. After that, the river flows north and eventually joins the Missouri River.
Hiking opportunities abound in Yellowstone National Park as well as the immediate area of the cabin. The Henrys Lake Mountains to the east of the cabin contain the impressive Sheep Mountain (10,200 ft.), Coffin Mountain (9,967 ft.), and Targhee Peak (10,300 ft.). The Sheep Creek trailhead (elev. ~ 6400 ft.) starts just one mile from the cabin and climbs five miles before reaching Sheep Lake, at an elevation of about 10,000 ft. The trail continues through the Henrys Lake Mountains and connects with the Continental Divide Trail and with Mile Creek Trail, which eventually returns to the valley floor. The entire trail, from Sheep Creek trailhead to Mile Creek trailhead is about 25 miles. The area through the mountains is filled with bears, so come prepared.
Horseback riding is one of the most popular visitor experiences in the area. With rides available from one hour to overnight pack trips, there are options for everyone. There are so many other wonderful things to do in the area you will most likely run out of time before you can do them all!
Our 2024 rates:

The perfect cabin if you want accessibility to the park but relief from the crowds. The owner was helpful, the scenery was majestic, and everything in the cabin worked. A morning cup of coffee on the porch was priceless.

Amazing cabin and view!
We rented the cabin for 5 nights to try it out for future vacations. Beautiful country while driving to the cabin. Such a cool place to stay, super cozy. The cabin had everything we needed and more. It was very quiet and relaxing. Perfect distance from the main road. We found ourselves sitting on the bench on the deck just watching the storm clouds move by for a good few hours because of how peaceful it is there. My wife and I needed to get away from the crazy, stressful city life, this was the perfect place to come to. We visited local towns for groceries and went out to eat at local restaurants that were recommended in the cabin info binder. We didn’t spend a lot of time at the cabin during the day but we loved returning to the cabin each night to rest up for the next adventure. Cabin had everything you have in a normal house other than an A/C unit. But we just opened a few windows and let the clean, cool air in. The shower was a little small but still a nice shower for a cabin and never ending hot water. I think our only complaint was the mattress wasn’t the best and we had issues with the carbon monoxide monitors in the middle of the night two nights in a row. The only things I would add would be, install curtains or blinds in the basement kitchen area, build a place on the property for a hot tub to soak and enjoy the amazing views and provide some kind of a covered parking. We loved the Montana views, we will definitely be returning for future getaways, we might even bring the kids this next time. Thank you for allowing us to visit your amazing cabin.

Perfect location with glorious views
This is a beautiful cabin nestled in a vast valley. The views are breath taking! The owner was very friendly to work with and many of the critical needs are covered such as linens and cooking pots and pans. The cabin is kid friendly and very cozy. There's also lots of wildlife viewable in the area and a wide variety of each. This cabin also offers a lot of privacy vs staying in a city. We simply loved the experience top to bottom!

Spectacular week at Sheep Mountain Cabin!!!
Thia vacation was, without a doubt, one of the best our family has taken. Sheep Mountain Cabin had just what we needed for a comfortable stay, and is a beautiful 30 minute drive to West Yellowstone. Our family enjoyed rafting, ziplining, hiking, horseback riding, and the exquisite beauty that Yellowstone National Park and the Grand Tetons has to offer. Mike B. was so responsive, we had no question unanswered, and his cabin is a gem! We will never forget our week at Sheep Mountain Cabin. Thank you Mike!

Amazing!!!
We booked this sight unseen through Tripadvisor and we love it!! It is everything everyone on Tripadvisor said it would be. The views are spectacular!!! Part of why we rented this was because of the views and solitude and we were not disappointed!!
It has great amenities and the owner is great to deal with and very forthcoming with information
You are 30 minutes from the West Yellowstone entrance, which is what we like, we can go to the park, deal with the crowds and then come back to the cabin and unwind. It does make for long drives though.
However, in the summer the sun stays up so long there needs to be dark or black out curtains on all the windows.
If we were fortunate enough to come back to Yellowstone, we would stay here again. It's a huge part of the Montana/Wyoming experience.

Breathtaking views from this impeccably decorated & spacious log cabin
The cabin is conveniently located near West Yellowstone and the west entrance of the park. It provides easy access to groceries, gas and shopping as you pass by the majestic Madison River. The cabin has well appointed, comfortable quality furnishings and is supplied with coffee, spices and bath products.
We visited in mid-May. My advice is don’t pay attention to your weather app. Our forecast for Yellowstone was rain everyday. The weather conditions change very quickly. We had many days of sunshine, some rain and even some snow showers but it only added to our Yellowstone adventure.
After a day at the park, you could cook a gourmet meal at home or stop by some of their fantastic restaurants: The Grizzly in Cameron or for the best ribs, visit Firehole BBQ in West Yellowstone. Everything you could wish for can be found in this gorgeous cabin on Sheep Mountain. We will definitely visit again!

Escape to tranquility, near the west entrance of YNP
This was the perfect place to go visit the park during the day and escape back to this cozy home for the night. The kids loved to play up in the mezzanine. We were 5 adults 5 kids and our time their was lovely. Don't miss the trail up the road.

Absolutely breathtaking place to stay!
I stayed here in July with my family of 4. The cabin was perfect! Such attention to detail and even better than expected. Incredibly clean. Kitchen was well stocked with basic plates, utensils, and even spices. Kids loved climbing up the ladder to stay in the loft and playing outside. Wrap-around porch was fantastic and a great place to sit in the evening to enjoy nature. Such a peaceful place and just a short drive to West Yellowstone for groceries or restaurants. Yellowstone was also just a short drive away. Would love to return here again!

Beautiful, peaceful stay !!
The cabin was just what we thought it would be. It was clean and spacious. It had a beautiful porch that we could see the mountains and had great views from all angles. It did snow before we arrived so the sitting outside was not as tempting as it would have been if the temps had been warmer (no fault of anyone but Mother Nature).
Bedrooms were spacious, there was a washer and dryer for our use and having almost 2 living areas was wonderful for the six (3 couples) of us.
My only recommendation would be a few more items in the kitchen, (cookie sheet, baking pan etc.) Other than those items everything else was provided.
I would stay in this cabin again for sure. Very relaxing and peaceful !!!
