Cabin Rental: Our secret cabin 'Eleanor' treats people all year long. Built on stilts like a tree house, and in the pines, it has a private campfire area wrapped in a boulder wall. We supply the firewood for free. The balcony keeps you close to nature and the fireplace keeps you warm. There is a Queen bed in the bedroom and a bunk bed facing the many windows into the trees in the open living space. So comfy and cozy, a beautiful cabin to appreciate the simple things. The cabin is stocked well with majority of the goods to keep your outing stress free, such as baking and cooking supplies and all eating utensils to use in the full kitchen: coffee maker/ice cube trays/micro/stove/fridge/toaster/blender. All the linens, comforter/bedding and bathroom/kitchen towels are fresh and provided by us. The bathroom is custom made and ADA compliant as well as the layout of the rest of the cabin, yet there is a slight slope outside to get to the front door. During the Winter we outfit with two sets of snow shoes to explore and snowmobiles are welcome as the trail cuts through the resort. Take a walk through the woods to the little lake to relax. There is no other lodging in sight from the cabin so there is not a care to disturb anyone. We encourage people to bring golf carts or ATV's to explore the property. We also have two golf carts for rent and they are a ton of fun to get around the big property on. Just let us know if you are interested:) Free: Boat use, we have kayaks, canoes, and paddle boats, and enough random fishing gear to get you on the lake for awhile! Firewood is free here, we have tons of it, do not bring your own. Right now beavers have dammed up our lake and so far they have sunk half the dock, so if they keep going we will have to get a new dock, but paddling to the dam and passed the beaver huts is really cool. LOCATED four miles South of Shevlin, MN, which is about 3.5-4 hours North of the Twin Cities. IMPORTANT: Our hallmark is accommodating to each guests different requests or wishes. We pride ourselves in catering to our guests, so just ask. . . If you want a 10 foot tall bonfire, a wedding proposal... :)

Cabin Eleanor stay was excellent!
My wife and I just stayed a few nights at Cabin Eleanor and it was excellent. My wife said it was "a 100% percent better" than she expected. She is not an outdoor person, but Eleanor is not really roughing it. It is an excellent cabin in a great location with everything modern. Nice, quiet and secluded though. We can't wait to come back again. And close to Itasca State Park. We highly recommend it!

Most relaxing vacation ever!
Our family of three spent a week in cabin Eleanor. I have never experienced such a well-stocked rental. Annie has thought of EVERYTHING you could possibly need during your stay--linens, kitchen supplies (including coffee, seasonings, dishes, utensils, cookware, etc.) toiletries, games, books, puzzles, DVDs . . . I could go on and on. There is no TV service, but both TVs in the cabin have DVD players. We spent many hours in the cabin watching movies, playing board games, doing jigsaw puzzles, and just relaxing. It was actually really nice to be forced to "unplug" for a week, as there is no wireless and cell phone service can be iffy. We spent one afternoon kayaking on the lake, which was really fun. We also rented a golf cart to cruise around the large property, which our daughter especially loved. Annie and crew do an amazing job making you feel like a valued guest. We felt very well cared-for, but we also had our privacy. The Black Lantern is close to Bemidji and Itasca State Park, so we were able to visit both places on our trip. But we spent most of our time at the cabin and resort. The property is gorgeous! You can see many thoughtful touches throughout the property. We are already looking forward to going back!

Great Holiday !!!!!
Hats off to Annie and the Black Lantern crew !!!! All your hard work has paid off. The cottage and the grounds are amazing. Your skills with woodworking, stonework, interior decorating, folk art is evident everywhere. The property is beautiful, and so is the lake. The opportunity to canoe, kayak, paddle boat is great. You could not ask for a better place to relax and enjoy nature. Two thumbs up !!!!

Incredible!
Cabin Eleanor is INCREDIBLE!! It's the best of everything. Outdoors, you find wilderness, nature and God's beauty. Indoors, you are in luxury. Every detail has been thought through by the owner. We instantly felt as if we were home yet felt like we were pampered at the same time! The bed was extremely comfortable. The fire pit was amazing! Beautiful in and out. We were truly blessed to be able to stay there and cannot wait to go back next year!

Very nice place to stay and very peaceful and quite. Can't say one bad thing about our experience. My wife and two sons enjoyed the cabin and fires each night. Thanks for everything Annie!

Truly exceeded our expectations!
This was a perfect weekend get away. I went with my husband and two young kids. This is a resort that has one cabin on a campground. Since we went in December, we were the only ones there. The views of nature were breathtaking - as well as the inside of the cabin! It had a kitchen that was fully stocked with everything you could want or need (except food). The bathroom was absolutely beautiful with a tiled shower with two shower heads and a faucet. The bedroom had a full size bed, plus in the main room was comfy bunk-beds. Perfect for the kids. There was also a comfy full size couch that pulled out into a double bed. The gas fireplace was beautiful as well. The details provided for guests were amazing. They really thought of everything in this "retreat". We went for a hike on the grounds and I can say - that I would love to camp here as well. The only downside for camping is that the lake it is on is only for fishing/boating. Not swimming. If you are looking for a cabin where you can connect with nature and still feel pampered - this is the spot!

Perfect weekend getaway
This was the PERFECT getaway that we needed. The cabin was beautiful and spotless. The bed was super comfortable. We didn't have a care in the world as we had everything we needed, including basic spices, which is a plus for someone who cooks. Annie was accesible if we needed anything and very friendly. Had no truobles booking the cabin; easy as one, two, three! Words cannot truly express how wonderful our stay was. We will definately be back!

Beautiful and Relaxing
I almost do not want to write a review, I want to be the only one who knows about this incredible cabin and property. The property itself is just gorgeous. The real gem is this hidden cabin perched in the woods. Every amenity you can think of is provided down to a slow cooker we used for a roast while we were out exploring at Lake Itasca park, just 20 minutes away. Annie is so kind with her guests and did everything to make us as comfortable as possible. We were so comfortable that we slept 11-12 hours every night, catching up on sleep we miss in our busy work lives. Wonderful stay! Wish we had a snowmobile so we could make a big winter trip!

Most relaxing honeymoon ever!!!
My wife and I went up to Eleanor the day after we got married. It was just the best trip we could have possibly hoped for. After all the stresses (worth it, but still a lot of work:) of a wedding this was just what we needed. We had the whole place to ourselves. The cabin was super clean and modern. The lake was small, but really all you could want as far as canoeing and kayaking. Outdoor fireplace was super neat with the stone seating. Highly recommend! We will be back! Thanks Annie!

Wonderful stay!
We had business in Bemidji and usually stay at one of the generic Bemidji area hotels. Being that our visit corresponded to our wedding anniversary, we decided to stay somewhere with a bit more character & charm. The Eleanor cabin fit our needs perfectly! It was a quick and easy drive to Bemidji, yet our time at the cabin was like we were in a whole different world! We were happy to see that the cabin is in a private location; tucked into a hill away from campers and other resort guests. Sandy checked us in & she gave us a thorough overview of the cabin and made sure that we even had bug spray! (we forgot to pack it) The cabin was ultra clean and the kitchen was well stocked with any needed utensil. We had drinks on the deck the first night, and while it rained non-stop the next two days, we felt secure and cozy in the cabin... fell asleep listening to the frogs in the pond below the cabin. Despite the rain, we did take a paddle boat cruise on Lake Bagley...beautiful! Definitely plan on returning on one of our Fall trips to Bemidji!

About the neighborhood
Just 15 minutes to Itasca State Park & the headwaters of the mighty Mississippi river. And under 20 minutes to Bemidji. Itasca: Ride a ferry boat to Historic Douglas Lodge where you can also set down and dine. Rent bicycles to take down MILES of trails or boat rental to cruise around the lake the Mississippi originates from. A great swimming beach and of course walking across the very beginning of the Mississippi river. Indulge in ice cream and shop for 'Minnesotan' souvenirs. Bemidji: See Paul Bunyan & Babe the Blue Ox on the waterfront, put in your boat and dock at a beachside restaurant. Old downtown offers too many establishments to count to eat and drink at. There is the college, the convention center for concerts and shows, little shops, and art on the street corners. Bemidji hosts MANY events and a regular farmers market. There is a strawberry farm just down the road that also supplies fresh asparagus, and honey from the neighbor. 'Neighbors' are classified as people within a 5 mi. radius because we don't have many of them:) There are also casinos to visit within 45 minutes max.
