Overview

3 Bedrooms , 1 Bathroom , Sleeps 6
Penobscot, Maine
Our cottage sits on a small bluff directly overlooking Penobscot Bay. About 15 feet from the cottage deck is our private stairs, leading to the water's edge. Maine coastline is more rocky than sandy -- our 'beach' is perfect for rock scrambling. And there is a little dock at the foot of the stairs where some guests take their morning coffee or store a kayak or just sit and think. The water is cold -- at least for those of us used to swimming in the Gulf of Mexico -- but is ideal for rowing and canoeing and kayaking if one isn't hardy enough to take a swim. There are little islands nearby to explore, but my favorite thing to do is to paddle out into the bay and sit quietly until the golden seals pop up around me.

We rent the cottage by the week or multiple weeks. Our weeks run from Saturday to Saturday. The cottage is...

We booked the cottage as a launching point for our Maine adventures from Rockland, Acadia, Deer Isle and all points in between. This place was great. It was quiet and out of the way yet close enough to many small costal towns. It was within...More

This was our second, but not the last visit to this cottage. Our first was in June 2015, and we loved both weeks. Wonderful cottage, easy access to local lakes, blueberry farms, small towns with quaint charm and easy access to Bar Harbor. We loved...More

Thank you! When we did our seasonal opening of the cottage last week I thought every single day about how great it would be to expand the bathroom, as you've suggested. The idea is not falling on deaf ears believe me! In the meantime, I'm...More

About the neighborhood
The cottage sits on the tip of a finger of land reaching out into Northern Bay. The mailing address of the cottage is “Penobscot, Maine.' Penobscot is a tiny village (which happens to have the best lobster rolls on the planet!). We're about 10 minutes from the village of Castine. Castine is the home of the Maine Maritime Academy. It’s a lovely little town, with a museum, fine restaurants, shops, and churches.

About 15 minutes from the cottage is Blue Hill, which is another charming town with wonderful galleries and restaurants and shops, not to mention a place to rent canoes and kayaks very reasonably! And an hour away is Acadia National Park, with magnificent hiking, biking, and boating as well as a wealth of shops and restaurants.
