Our house is a typical old style house with 2 bedrooms with shared bathroom in the attic. 2 bedrooms on the 1st floor one of which has an en suite. On the ground floor at the front there is an entrance hall come reading room and an art studio which has a log burner. There is also an easel and copier/ printer ( for the artist in you). The back of the house is a barn conversion with kitchen and dinning area at one end and a sitting room at the other end in the dinning area there is another wood burner and it the sitting area an electric imitation wood burner. The garden although small it has a good size patio, garden furniture and barbeque area. It is a real suntrap as it is very sheltered which means it also very private.

Named the “Land of a thousand lakes' there are both large and small lakes for picnicking, rivers to follow, visiting the interesting and pretty medieval towns that are on their shores. The river Vienne has several towns of interest one of which is Confolens. Montmorillion the town famous for its books and printing is on the Gartempe worth a visit for its art galleries and old book shops besides the old medieval buildings.- this unspoilt region of Central SW France has much to offer for lovers of country pursuits, fishing, walking, cycling, bird watching, golf, as well as those seeking cultural and sightseeing activities. If you are into the history of WW2. The small town Oradour-sur-Glane is not far away with its heart breaking ruins. It has been left exactly as it was after the Germans killed all the inhabitants and destroyed the buildings. There are 2 golf courses in the area. The nearest being about 15 minutes away on the edge of Mortmart, it is only 9 holes but I can assure you it is not easy. It has a very pleasant club house where you can buy light lunches and the usual drinks. St Junien is the town nearest to the other course which is about half an hour away. We have not played there so cannot tell you anything about it. Mortmart is listed as one of the prettiest villages of France and is worth a visit for it old church and Chateau des Ducs. There are two places to eat in the village, a very up market hotel serving extremely good food and wine, the other a more down to earth restaurant run by a family from England who offer a good medium priced menu. Although I have never taken the opportunity to try it, during the summer months it is possible to make a pony a trap ride around the area There are many famous chateaux and historical monuments, The Chateau du Fraisse on the road just outside Mezieres is worth a visit but is only open during the summer months Enjoy walking? Interested in Megaliths? There are plenty of foot paths and many lead you to amazing Megalith formations. These are all sign posted and easy to find. There is plenty to see and do or if you prefer you can just sit in the garden and soak up the sun.
Mezieres-sur-Issoire is a small village, but it still has all the facility you could need including a small super market, a bakery, a chemist, a post office, a bank with cash dispenser, a snack bar run by an English couple, 2 restaurants which are open for lunch and a pizza restaurant which is open for lunch and evening meals plus a small bar selling papers and tobacco it shuts at six so no evening drinking. There is also a large sports area / park. These are all within walking distance of our house. The area is famous for its sheep and the sheep market is held in the town. Because of this there several sculptures of sheep around the village some of which in the half light of evening look quite real! There is a craft fair held in the square in August every year. If you are interested in local art there is a permanent exhibition of a local artist’s work in the Marie (town hall).
