The Cockle Shell dates back to the 19th Century and the street is shown on early maps. It's had a number of uses in the past including Drapers Shop.
From the opening of the front door, until we locked up and left, we were thrilled with all the the cottage has to offer, we travelled around the Gower peninsula and, down to Porthcawl. Parking was not a problem, GG’s ice cream was delightful, disappointed with the Fish and Chip shop next door.

Lovely cottage with plenty of room
Just like a Tardis, as someone else said. Good location for seeing the Gower.

Excellent
A little gem. When we opened the door the first thing my husband said was you’re going to love this. It was really beautiful, loads of space and everything for our comfort. Not far from stunning beaches. I would recommend and indeed have recommended this lovely cottage to many friends. It was spotlessly clean and so well equipped.

Loved it!
Great location even in the winter for a break away from the city, you are right on the beach, which are unspoilt and without amusement arcades etc.... but with a well stocked supermarket and butchers etc... nearby so you don't feel too cut off. Fantastic local beer and plenty of food outlets inc. an award winning cafe and Indian takeaway, fish and chips too of course!
The house itself was very welcoming with cupboards well stocked and really nicely decorated, heatingm, showers etc... all in great condition and comfortable even in the winter.
Plenty to do if you have a car, around the area, easy to get to but very little traffic and plenty of free parking too. Had a great time and would not hesitate to recommend to anyone!

Most relaxing weekend
We had a very comfortable stay at the lovely cockleshell cottage at Penclawdd. The cottage was very convenient for all of Gower and also railway station at nearby Gowerton. The cottage was a tardis and everything was thought of for the comfort of guests and canines! Lovely touches made it feel like home from home. On arrival we were pleased to find fresh milk and Welsh cakes and a little welcome treat for our dog! It's a concern during the Winter whether the cottage is warm, but Cockleshell cottage was very warm and cosy. Penclawdd is a good base and the cottage is opposite beautiful views of the estuary as well as a great café, fish and chip shop, chemist and mini market - well stocked for all your last minute needs. We will definitely want to return for a complete chill out! We tried to book a further night, but it was already booked up.... Thanks again for a perfect stay at the cockleshell 😊

Fabulous Week at a Fabulous Property
Arrived at property and it far surpassed what I was expecting. Beautiful well laid out property, very roomy. The owners have thought of everything one might need or want. They have taken time to make the guest arrival book an absolute mine of knowledge. From phone numbers to where one might like to visit. Very handy to say the least.
There was books/dvds/board games/chess/guitar for your use and lots more. On arrival the property had been decorated for Xmas. In the kitchen there was tea, coffee, milk, welsh cakes, and more all complimentary. Such a lovely thing to do.
Nearby is a supermarket, fish and chip shop (excellent) Indian takeaway (excellent - cash only), and a Pharmacy etc.
While out and about I used to think I will be glad when I’m “home” because that’s exactly what it felt like.
Do not hesitate if you are contemplating a holiday/break here you will LOVE IT.
Well done to the owners you have got this venture a million % perfect. Well done 💖 😊 x

Perfect
Absolutely amazing place to stay, larger than we thought it would be. We only have one issue in that we felt the bed was slightly on the small side. Thankful that the owners were so accommodating with our pet ferret (she had the most wonderful time, as did we). Thank you so much

A quiet spot with all the extras
A fairly quiet spot as there was a pub refurbishment across the road, it can get quite busy during the day.
No problems with the chippy next door who serve good food, local supermarket was well stocked but not the cheapest.
Cottage was comfortable well laid out with plenty of room, everything and more was provided. Everything was clean and fresh nice touch was the tea coffee and cakes left for us on arrival, if we had know there was a tassimo coffee machine we would have brought some capsules from home as we also have one.
The step into the house beat us as wife can’t lift her legs that high and I’m no better, so we had to use the back gate. With a dog it was a bit of a squash with the table and chairs, I know it’s because of the tidal flooding but a level threshold and a flood board may be a better option as with a prat or walking aid you’d be beaten.
The dog had plenty of room to wander about downstairs and slept well in his cage, walks across the road in easy reach and I was pleasantly surprised to find a Hedgehog as 11pm one night by the play area.
All in a pleasant welcome break in a spacious cottage with rain or sun your catered for, with dvds, games or guitar.

Great cottage
Just come back from a few days stay in this cottage. Lovely and clean with all the facilities you could wish for including a log burner. Well situated for visiting the lovely beaches of the Gower and the LC2 swimming pool in nearby Swansea. We were lucky with the weather which made the stay even better. Try the breakfast at the Café Cariad two doors along, it was great, also the fish and chip shop next door. Great communications with the owners. Would definitely recommend this property.

Penclawdd is in North Gower and ideally situated to explore the area. The Cockle Shell lies opposite the estuary where the river Loughor meets the sea. There are fishing boats across the road and the area is populated by beautiful, wild marsh horses. The village is famous for its cockles and Penclawdd cockles are still sold in local markets as a prized delicacy.
The Cockle Shell is ideally situated for exploring the Gower. There is a cafe and fish and chip shop either side and a newly refurbished Inn/Bistro opposite. Also nearby are an Indian Take Away, Chemist and Supermarket.
Getting around
The cottage is on the Welsh coastal path and ideal for cyclists and walkers. It's also on the main bus route and 6 miles from the nearest train station in Gowerton. Ideally a car or bicycle is recommended to explore the Gower peninsula which has numerous small villages and hidden coves and beaches.

How to get there
If travelling via car follow the M4 to junction 47 then follow the signs for the Gower. The Cockle Shell is on the coastal road and hard to miss. In the village of Penclawdd you will come to a sharp bend next to a car park overlooking the estuary. The Cockle Shell is next door to the Fish and Chip shop with plenty of free parking across the road. The ideal place from which to explore the Gower.
