Casa Colibri (Hummingbird House) is a unique luxury four-bedroom villa on the Riviera Nayarit, which sleeps eight and is only steps from the ocean. The villa consists of four separate buildings connected by a vine-covered walkway. Three of the buildings are lofty palapas. Not only is the villa private from other houses, but each separate building affords privacy even among your rental party. Fly into the Puerto Vallarta airport and either rent a car or get picked up by one of our vans. Not only is the villa private from other houses, but each separate building affords privacy even among your rental party. Fly into the Puerto Vallarta airport and either rent a car or get picked up by one of our vans. Casa Colibri sits in an area of stunning beauty, away from the noisy, smoggy bustle of Puerto Vallarta and from the crowds and noisy nightlife of Sayulita. We are situated on Punta el Custodio, a jungle-covered promontory jutting into the Pacific Ocean, just 75 miles north of the Puerto Vallarta airport, and about 40 miles north of Sayulita. To the north of the promontory is a wild, rockbound coast; to the south, a 12-mile long fine sand beach, just across a narrow tidal estuary, accessible by two stairways only 100 yards away from your front gate. For 51 weeks of the year, this unspoiled beach is virtually deserted, although during Semana Santa it is a popular destination for Mexican families. Casa Colibri is an open-style palapa village consisting of four separate buildings. Its main living area, the Sala Grande, has 30-foot ceilings and overlooks a private pool. The Master Bedroom and Second Bedroom have similar soaring palapa ceilings. Come for the beach, the sun, for boogie-boarding and surfing (with one of the best surf breaks on this part of the Pacific Coast, just at the base of the stairs). Cross the estuary to Turtle Beach, where thousands of newly-hatched baby sea turtles are released in season; the volunteer staff will often allow you to release them yourselves. Go whale-watching right off the Point, see dolphins frolicking just yards away. Go deep-sea fishing, horseback riding, bird-watching, hike into the famed El Cora waterfall. You are in the Real Mexico: no tourist traps. Visit the local villages, take in a colorful street market, go to the seaside restaurants right down the hill for wood-grilled red snapper, iced beer, grilled shrimp prepared different ways. Casa Colibri sleeps eight (two bedrooms each have a king size bed, one bedroom has a queen size bed and the fourth bedroom has two twin beds which can be joined together to form a king bed). IMPORTANT NOTE: While Casa Colibri accommodates a maximum of 8 adults, up to 10 people can stay in the house, as long as no more than 8 of them are 13 years or older. A sign-in sheet will be sent to you before arrival, listing each person who will be occupying the house. If more than the agreed-upon number of people arrive, the whole party may be turned away unless prior permission has been obtained from the owners. IMPORTANT NOTE: There is no WiFi, but Casa Colibri has 3g cellular access in parts of the villa with no limitations and at no cost to guests. 3g allows Internet access, at slower than U.S. speeds but adequate for email and light browsing. Mexico data plans are offered by many cellular carriers either at an additional cost, or already included in your existing plan. The 3g signal varies during the day, with best reception early AM’s and late PM’s when the cellular towers are not overloaded. We recommend that you contact your cellular carrier and activate a Mexico data plan that meets your needs. This way, you will be able to access the Internet on your cellular devices, or you can use your smart phone as a mobile WiFi “hotspot” so that you can access the Internet on laptops or tablets. If you plan to run an Internet-dependent business while you are on vacation: do not rent this villa, as Internet connectivity cannot be guaranteed. IMPORTANT NOTE: We are an isolated vacation destination deep in rural Mexico. We have a maritime climate with salt air, heavy rain from June through October, windstorms and an unreliable Mexican power grid. There are periodic power outages; although we have a community back-up generator, it is intended for emergency lighting, refrigeration and water pressure. It will run ceiling fans but NOT the air conditioners. As power outages are beyond our control, we do not accept responsibility for any inconvenience or discomfort caused by bad weather, power outages or other events beyond our control. In addition, the salt air and the fluctuations in our electrical supply put enormous stress on our appliances: we have had four refrigerators in 11 years. Please understand that as this is our home, we maintain our appliances to the best of our ability, but sometimes they fail abruptly. We will make every effort have failed appliances repaired or replaced as soon as possible, but sometimes parts are difficult to locate. If you are not able to deal with the effects of bad weather, possible power outages or appliance failures, please do NOT rent Casa Colibri. More

Interaction with guests
The hosts live in the U.S. Guests will have the villa to themselves. IMPORTANT NOTE: [Sorry, there was no more space under 'About the Property.'] We're in a jungle. While this means birds and butterflies, there are iguanas, geckos, raccoons, armadillos, opossums and…insects, especially June through October. Except for no-see-ums, almost all the insects you'll encounter are harmless. Mosquitoes are infrequent. As for the no-see-ums, they are out at dawn and dusk, and are rarely inside the house. They vary with the moon phase and the tides, We recommend bringing bug dope and wearing long sleeves, long pants and socks at dawn and dusk.

About the neighborhood
Casa Colibri is on a point -- Punta el Custodio -- jutting into the Pacific Ocean on the most unspoiled part of the Riviera Nayarit. We are 75 miles driving distance from the Puerto Vallarta airport. The beach is just steps away. The Point is isolated, secluded, quiet. Lush tropical vegetation, song birds all day long, squadrons of pelicans flying by, whales and dolphins (in season) right off the Point.
Getting around
If you do not rent a car, our rental manager will arrange local transportation at reasonable rates. You can visit a local crafts market, go on a spectacular jungle cruise (and see lots of crocodiles), go deep-sea fishing or whale watching (in season), or visit the gorgeous El Cora waterfall. Most guests, however, rarely go outside the community's gates, as the Point is so entrancing that they have no desire to go anywhere else!
