Steeped in history, Chateau Floran started life in the 12th century as a 'Donjon', a fortification tower that was a defense outpost for Chateau Latoue. Addition of the stone staircase tower, (and windows & doors!) made it into elegant accommodation. This oldest sect ion of the chateau now forms the gite, with further extensions being made in the 18th century which make up the owners wing.
It sleeps 12 with 6 bedrooms (2 double bedrooms with ensuite shower rooms, 2 further doubles, and 2 twin rooms) with 2 family bathrooms. Lounge, & kitchen/dining room, cloakroom, with the original 1m thick walls keeping the house cool during the hot summers. WiFi coverage in all the rooms. It also has a patio, swimming pool (10m x 5m)and summer kitchen.

Beautiful villa in a lovely peaceful location. Lots of space inside and out. Enjoyed the bike hire and kayaking at nearby Pyrenees. Hope to go back asap.

Places to visit include Aurignac - famous for the prehistoric fossils found there and medieval buildings, St Gaudens for its 11 century collegiate church, St Bertrand de Comminges, lovely old town with its 11/12 century cathedral which is on the pilgrims way to St James of Compestela (Piedmont way), also has Roman ruins, The spa town of Luchon is a great place to relax or walk (cable car up the mountain works all year).
Pic du Midi not only gives fantastic mountain views but the observatory at the top is very interesting. Lourdes is famous for its grotto & Holy Water which is said to have miracle healing powers. The prehistoric caves at Gargas, where you can see early caveman art.

From the Ferry ay Caen, the driving time is approx 8 hours

From Toulouse Airport (Blagnac) Follow the signs towards Tarbes – Lourdes on the toll motorway (A62/61) then onto the A64 after the peripheric/ring road. Stay on A64 (E80) til junction 21, then exit motorway and follow signs for Aurignac following the D635 winding your way through the villages until you reach Aurignac from where Latoue is signposted (D8). Passing through Saint Elix-Seglan and Aulon stay on D8 to Latoue. At the roundabout in Latoue (see lake on LHS) go all the way round the roundabout so you are heading back the way you came, after about 700 m on a bend to the left you will see a wooden sign on the right saying “Floran “, the drive goes down to th...
