Relaxed and friendly
We booked last minute and were really pleased with the accommodation. The Gite was clean and spacious for 3 of us. The owners were friendly and very helpful. Excellent location for beaches and good restaurants

Lovely holiday and excellent value for money
Lovely stay - Gites are clean and have everything you can need. Pool is great and gardens have a superb view and have a table so you can take a bottle of wine and drink with a stunning countryside view. Table tennis table with a sofa next to it is great as it is under cover so in the shade.Â
The location is only 5 minutes drive from the beach, 15 minutes from Sables and there is plenty to do locally.
Highly recommended.

Friendly and welcoming owners, the gites are well presented and clean.
Cathy and Howard have put a lot into making their site attractive. The gites are very nice and even though you are only a stones throw from the main road you never hear it.
It was lovely to have a pool on site for having a swim and cooling off especially during the really hot spell even though you're only 10 - 15 minutes from a beach.
We would definitely recommend Dolphin Gites as great value for money.

Lovely gites, would recommend
We stayed at Dolphin Gites and had a lovely time. The hosts are welcoming and friendly. The gites were comfortable, and each of the six gites had its own private patio area. The pool was lovely, and we used it most days.
Dolphin gites is located in a great palace to explore the area. There are several,lovely beaches nearby, plus pretty twins and villages. The velo-rail was a highlight ,but does get busy so you may need to book in advance. There’s a good supermarket nearby plus a bakery van that comes daily with French bread etc.
All-in-all, this is a gem of a site, and I would recommend it to families and couple alike.

Very well-appointed gite, fabulous location, excellent pool, lovely hosts.
Recently returned from a fantastic family holiday at Dolphin Gites. We stayed in Gite Tamaris and found it very comfortable, super clean and very well equipped. Our children (6 & 8) loved the swimming pool, the table tennis & the garden play area. Very welcoming hosts and a perfect base to explore the wonderful Vendee beaches and surrounding area. We would highly recommend and will definitely be back!

Another lovely holiday at Dolphin Gites
We have enjoyed our third family holiday at Dolphin Gites and yet again it did not disappoint. Lovely spacious gite, great gardens and pool, helpful welcoming hosts and a fantastic location. This year we explored the Chateau at Tiffauges, visited La Rochelle and had fun in the Crazy maze at Talmont St Hilaire. There is so much to do in the area, even on cooler days. Plenty of choice for eating out, but the gite is well equipped for those who like to cook for themselves- we enjoyed doing both! Already booked for next year - can't wait to return. Thanks Cathy and Howard for providing such a relaxing holiday!

Quiet location in lovely village
This is one of several gites on one site, run by a friendly Anglo-French couple who live on site and engage with their guests. This included - during our week there, at least - a get together for the guests over wine in the garden.
Our gite was well maintained and clean, with the facilities we needed. It was a bit small for five (the advertised number), but easily large enough for the three of us. If we have any criticisms they were that the TV was a bit small and the shower room/WC had inadequate ventilation. However, we have no real complaints and would happily stay there again.
Facilities on the site included wi-fi, and we were grateful to the owners for going to great lengths to make sure that our teenage son could get a decent signal and a location for his Xbox. There was also a table tennis room and access (for 5 euros) to a washing machine.
Make sure you have directions to the gites before you get to La Chaize Giraud, because they are tucked away in a small lane and you won’t stumble on them while driving through. However, you can also find them on foot by parking near the church (the tower dominates the village skyline) and walking past the vehicle no entry sign left of the west end of the church. The gites actually back on to the church, an attractive Romanesque building dating back 800+ years. The church bell sounds the hour day and night but did not disturb us in the least.
The property has pleasant gardens and a small swimming pool which, tucked behind hedges, is a sun trap. The water in the pool was cold, though.
Within an hour’s drive, we found an interesting chateau at Apremont and an older one at Talmont St Hilaire, the latter associated with Richard Coeur de Lion. St Gilles is a pretty seaside town close by, and there are good beaches along much of the coastline, sometimes a substantial walk through dunes from the car park. If you have a lot of wet weather, make sure you are equipped with books and other indoor entertainment, as this area of the Vendee is not geared to providing wet weather activity.
There is a large Super U store at Bretignolles-sur-Mer, just a few minutes away by car. Within 10 minutes’ walk there is also a small Spar and a very smart bakery. However, you can purchase your bread, croissants, pains au chocolat and pains au raisins from the bakery van that visits the gites at about 8.45 six mornings a week.

Super family holiday destination
Our second holiday at Dolphin Gites was, if possible, even more relaxing than the previous year! Gite Tamaris was clean, spacious and well-equipped, the weather was fantastic, our fellow guests were friendly, and hosts Cathy and Howard were welcoming and hospitable. Our ten year old had a great time playing with other children, which made for a relaxing holiday for us! The local area is interesting (Puy du Fou, about an hour away, is a must-see!) and there are lots of places we still have to discover. We have never returned to a holiday destination before we found Dolphin gites- but we will be definitely be going back next year for vist number three!

You can fly into Nantes and hire a car, or you can drive from the UK crossing the Channel by ferry or tunnel. We are located about 3 hours drive from the Channel port of St Malo, and about half a day's drive from the other main ports of Cherbourg, Caen and Le Havre, 7 hours from Calais.There are daily flights to and from Nantes airport from the UK and Ireland.
