I was very happy to book this, as it was a birthday present for my husband and it was something different, however on arrival I had mixed feelings about it. If you want to try this I advise to book it in the summer months, or when it’s dry, we got really unlucky with the weather because it was raining days before and during our stay which caused a lot, A LOT of dampness in the yurt. Now i’m not saying you should control the weather, but when a client is paying that much money (£220 for two nights for me is a lot of money) I think as the owner you should make sure that the accommodation is suitable for people to sleep in. This could have been done by setting up the fire place through the day so it dries the dampness out, and setting the bedsheets like an hour before we arrive. But it wasn’t. We arrived in the evening, had to stumble in the dark because the girl from the hotel didn’t really know where the yurt was because she’s never been there. We finally found it, there is no outside lighting at all, there are some solar lamps that do not work, so it’s a bit uncomfortable if you want to go out to the toilet in the middle of the night, torches are provided, but you don’t see anything beyond the torch light. The yurt itself is not as new as it looks in the pictures, the roof is quite dirty/mouldy from the dampness and from the trees, you could see the places where the water was gathering quite strongly, unfortunately that’s right where the head of the bed is, made me quite uneasy that at one point it will just start leaking or burst. The place definitely needs some TLC, i do have friends who would have probably turned around and left after they saw it. Also the owner didn’t message us once to see if we got in ok, if we needed anything etc., which made us feel that she didn’t really care. I’m sorry if for some people it seems that i’m asking for too much, but it is called a ‘luxury’ yurt retreat - there is nothing luxury about it. We couldn’t fall asleep for hours because of the damp bed sheets.
Other then all these things, I can see the charm of the yurt, it’s a very rustic style and in the summer time it can be nice. The lanterns and tea lights are a very nice touch and the bed is comfortable. There’s a gas cooker that works well and everything you might need for tea/food making. The fire place heats up the place quite quickly but the warmth also disappears quickly once the fire stops.
The yurt is close to nearby towns where there are a lot of nice places for breakfast and exploring. Eastbourne is really close which is also amazing. You definitely need a car though.
I usually never write reviews but I felt that this needed to be shared. It’s definitely a nice place but it needs more attention and love, also better care of renters from the owner.
