(If required, a smaller house close by can accommodate a further 6 people upon request.) Enjoy a cool drink or lunch at De Reef and the oceanside bar and mid-week open air movie at Keegans, all on the beach. Join in the steel pan jump up at The Frangipani on the water front. There are a number of good restaurants and bars on the island. Off season Gert keeps Papa's bar and restaurant open in Port Elizabeth, always welcoming. Bequia is the perfect island to relax and unwind, swimming, reading, fishing, snorkelling or diving, or hike to the top of Mount Peggy side-stepping purple-orange land crabs, and from the lava rock sculpted summit look down over the sweep of islands. Explore the beaches, calm Princess Margaret or the beautiful but wilder Atlantic side of the island, and the turtle sanctuary. Visit the pristine islands of the Tobago Cays, Mayreau on the way. Explore St Vincent where Pirates of the Caribbean was filmed at Wallilabou Bay, hike to the Dark View Falls or the Soufriere volcano. Or just take a water taxi around Bequia and see the dwellings at Moonhole from the sea, an extraordinary and magical collection of houses carved and built into the cliffs at the southern tip of the island. Stroll through the shops and vegetable stalls of Port Elizabeth and catch its old world charm. The people of Bequia are warm and welcoming and you will soon feel at home and may well yearn to return to this unique island with its Caribbean charm.More
Please be aware that as the house is built on a hillside there is a a drop from the outside living terrace with a low wall and a rail - but we do have a safety net which can be installed upon request if very young children are staying.
For more information please don't hesitate to ask.
Please be sensitive about Air Conditioning use and remember to turn it off when not in the room. The cost of electricity is very high, and also on a practical level if it goes wrong it will inconvenience you.
I don't normally write reviews but feel Cassava and its owner deserve one. We spent 10 days at Cassava in early March - we know Bequia and love it, and decided we wanted to stay in a house we had heard so much about and...More
This was our second trip to Villa Cassava, both over Memorial Day weekend. We enjoyed it so much last year, we brought my brother and his wife this time. Again, Lower Bay beach was quiet and offered great snorkeling close to the shore as well...More
The house was so beautiful, located just above lower bay. We had a fantastic time, and were very well looked after by Chef and manager Patrick Hepburn. Cassava house was wonderful reprieve after days out enjoying the island, luxurious yet felt like our home instead...More
A beautiful house, Cassava exceeded all of our expectations. The area in which Cassava is situated ( a 5 minute walk to the beach) allowed us to take full advantage of the natural features of Bequia, to create an extremely memorable holiday experience. The villa...More

Cassava's house manager, Lucille will be delighted to welcome you to Cassava and show you around so that you are at ease with how everything works from the AirConditioning to the internet. She will be happy to receive your call should you have any worries or need any advice on how to book a boat trip to the Tobago Cays, fishing or just point you in the direction of the excellent restaurants on Bequia. Given advance notice she can arrange a chef or a babysitter to ensure you have a relaxed and special time to unwind on your holiday. Thora, our housekeeper comes in each weekday morning during high season to organise breakfast and give a sweep and tidy. During low season she will be pleased to come in by arrangement. .
There is a tennis court at the Gingerbread Hotel where after a game Maranne's Ice Cream Parlour on the sea front has to be visited for a cool down.
Snorkel along the rocks, visit the Old Hegg Turtle Sanctuary in Park Bay, the Whaling Museum, the Hamilton Fort, St Vincent Carnival during the first week of July. Have lunch at Sugar Reef on the Atlantic side or take a water taxi across to Isle de Quatre for a barbecue on a deserted island.
It is easy just to call a taxi - they are not expensive and we have several numbers and all the drivers on Bequia are friendly and swift to come. There is a dollar van from the top of Lower Bay road. And there is the option of hiring a jeep for your stay or just for a few days - around USD 50 a day.
A beautiful walkway has been built following the water's edge, allowing you to walk from the Lower Bay headland over onto Princess Margaret Beach, past Jack's Bar and around the cliff edge along the ocean side which arrives at the Belmont walkway along the harbour front into Port Elizabeth, the main harbour town.
