Stables Cottage is a quirky little home the result of a barn conversion. It is furnished in a country cottage style. It has a large multi fuel stove which is easy to light and stays in overnight. This provides hot water, central heating and space heating in the cottage. We are happy to light this in advance of guests arrival. Fuel and electricity is provided at no extra charge. There is plenty of parking in the yard, and the back garden is a completely private space. The cottage has two bedrooms, the upstairs bedroom has a double bed, and the downstairs bedroom has a single bed. There is also a double sofa bed in the living room. There is a T.V. and D.V.D. player in the living room, with a selection of D.V.D's. The kitchen is a generous size, with a table which can comfortably seat six....Stables Cottage is a quirky little home the result of a barn conversion. It is furnished in a country cottage style. This review is a little late. We stayed at Jock's place in September 2018. It is a nice small cottage tucked away in near Eskdalemuir. Jock was a great host and was very helpful. We had no idea how to use the wood fired stove...More

We luckily stumbled across the cottage online by chance after wanting some peaceful time away from Edinburgh that was near to Dumfries children's attractions. We booked a 1 night stay as the drive wasn't too long. We absolutely loved our time at the cottage and...More

About the neighborhood
Eskdalemuir is a fairly rural parish rather than a village. There are about three hundred people living in the valley. The surroundings are very quiet and pleasant. I often feel as if we live in the middle of a very large park. There is a lot of wildlife. We often see deer, foxes, and badgers are about all the time. Two badgers visit our neighbour each evening for tea. Samye Ling is our main attraction in the area, which is very welcoming to visitors of all faiths, and should be visited if you come to Eskdalemuir. It has a beautiful temple as well as extensive gardens, a shop and a cafe which are all open to visitors.
Getting around
There is a bus service serving Eskdalemuir, however most visitors to the area have a car. Samye Ling is within walking or cycling distance from Stables cottage, as is our Community Hub which is on the way to Samye Ling and makes a good place to stop for a coffee. There are immense opportunities for walking and cycling in the area with literally hundreds of miles of forest roads to explore.
