Cottage
The Badger Sett is a tranquil hideaway located in the unspoilt north-eastern corner of the Lake District National Park and is our home-from-home. We use it as often as we can (with our two children and well behaved dog). In between times we invite you to come and enjoy it too. We want to make you feel at home and aim to provide the highest quality of facilities, fittings and service. Since buying The Badger Sett in late 2010 we've completely remodeled and refurbished the cottage to make it in to the stylish, spacious and extremely relaxing place that it is today. Built around a 200 year old barn with modern extensions to either side, the cottage is all on one level (so no stairs to worry about) and the safe, enclosed garden make it ideal for families with children. The cottage sits in its own grounds with beautiful views across the valley and is approached via a gated driveway from a very quiet country lane. There is an outside dining area with BBQ, off-road parking for up to three cars and a tap for washing muddy bikes and boots. The nearest house is the farm across the lane and the only neighbours you're likely to meet are the inquisitive and friendly bullocks who live in the field next door. Inside is luxuriously furnished with a harmonious blend of funky modern, retro chic and antique furniture – there's no shortage of mod-cons but there are plenty of traditional features too. There's also free wifi if you find it impossible to leave work behind or you have teenagers suffering from facebook withdrawal. The picturesque Lakeland village of Hesket Newmarket is just a one mile stroll down a peaceful country lane and is home to The Old Crown, Britain's first co-operatively owned pub which boasts its own micro-brewery. The remote Caldbeck Fells are on the doorstep and provide fantastic opportunities for walking and mountain biking. The popular market town of Keswick (arguably the outdoor capital of the UK) is just a 25 minute drive away whilst the beautiful Ullswater lies 15 miles to the south.

Long weekend away
What a beautiful cottage! My parents booked this and we stayed as a family (6 people and a dog) and the cottage was perfect for us. We would definitely return - even with the poor weather, it was great to get outdoors and take advantage of the walks and nearby villages. The cottage is very spacious and was immaculate- we didn’t feel cramped in at all. It was perfect for the dog as the grounds are well secured and it was secluded which felt like an ‘escape’. The poor weather made us take advantage of the board games, books and Nintendo Wii and the open plan feel to the lounge area meant everyone was comfortable. The bedrooms were beautiful and were each a good size. There is one main bathroom and then a smaller toilet and shower room which meant there was no arguing in the mornings. Even though it rained we managed to have a BBQ and loved every minute of it! We are already planning to return as a family in the future and would definitely recommend.

What a brilliant find!
We had an absolutely brilliant half term week at this cottage. Super layout - all on one level. Secure garden for kids/dog. Close to lovely little village. So so quiet! Perfect for families young and old. Lovely neighbours of the bovine variety. Great BBQ. Very well stocked kitchen. WiFi and TV. Wii available too. Owners are very helpful. Everything very clear and understandable (instructions etc) Would highly recommend and if we go back to the area would definitely stay again.

Relax and unwind
Badger's Sett is in a lovely location on the eastern edge of The Lakes. There are some fabulous walks on the doorstep that take you to Caldbeck for coffee and cake or a visit to the pub for a glass of wine. The property is well equipped throughout and provides a very comfortable place to relax after a day walking in the fells.

Perfect Getaway!
What a wonderful trip! My girlfriend and I took a long weekend away in the hope of finding some peace and quiet away from Leeds and we were not disappointed. The Badger Sett was a lovely hidey-hole in the middle of the countryside with great access to so many brilliant walks. Our personal favourite way Airaforce waterfalls near Ullswater which was about a 25 minute trip in the car and, despite the weather, was very picturesque. Dom was a very friendly host, he answered all our trivial questions and gave us plenty of tips to make the most of our stay. The cottage was very well equipped and the local pub was fab. We will definitely be back as soon as we can - thanks for having us!

Beautiful house, fantastic layout for children, great taste!
We stayed for a weekend and we loved the house, gave us a feeling of being in a boutique hotel! Great location with Keswick nearby and having a 7 year old and a 1 year old, the one level layout was fantastic, especially for the little one practising her crawling!!! Very clean throughout and fabulous games in the cupboard to explore. TV has Netflix and there is a drawer full of DVDs too. Couldn't have wanted for anything else for a cosy, yet luxurious stay!

Little piece of heaven!!
We were so excited for our break in the lakes. It was my husband's 40th so it was a real special celebration. On the drive to the cottage the views were spectacular. We drove through the little village which was so pretty and quaint, picked up a bottle of milk ready to enjoy a cuppa in a beautiful setting! The cottage is in the middle of no where which totally appealed to us all but a short drive and you are in Keswick or Penrith. My husband is a keen bike rider and thoroughly enjoyed getting up before the kids and biking off. Coming back with stunning photos of the surrounding area. The house itself is plenty big enough. We are a family of 5 and there was plenty of room for us all. The kids thoroughly enjoyed the Wii and dvds as well as the games and toys. While me and the hubby enjoyed a drink or two! It's well equipped home from home with everything you need. We walked in and instantly felt at home and relaxed. We enjoyed getting back to basics - getting togged up and getting out there. Plenty of fresh air and scenic walks followed by warm bubble baths is just what the Dr ordered!! We enjoyed ourselves so much I got in touch with Dom before our holiday was over to book up for next year ....can't wait!!

Gem of a cottage tucked away in a quiet location
What a great place to get away from it all. With it's own gated entrance you know you're in for something special. As soon as I stepped out of the car and looked at the view I fell in love with this place. The cottage itself is extremely spacious, with two large double bedrooms, the main bedroom even has it's own fireplace. The kitchen is huge and has everything you could possibly need. Dom the owner even left a nice a bottle of wine on our arrival, which was a nice touch. The location is quite remote, you are literally surrounded by fields and a farm so it is an ideal place to use as a base to see the wonders of the North West Lakes. There is a great BBQ as well which we took advantage of with the glorious weather we had. Dom even went to the trouble of driving up from Preston to replace the grill as the previous guests hadn't bothered to clean it. We walked in to the local village of Heskett Newmarket but there really isn't much there apart from a tea room and a pub. I advise you to do a big shop at Penrith on the way to the cottage and you can stock up on other stuff at Keswick which isn't too far away. There are two bathrooms on the property with the shower being very powerful which was nice. There are some games in the lounge along with a Wii and a selection of DVDs to keep the kids amused if it's a rainy stay indoors type day. I would definitely recommend this place, it can sleep 6 people comfortably and would book again without hesitation if we venture back up to the Lake District

superb cottage
This is probably the best equipped holiday let I've ever stayed in. The setting is lovely and the views at this time of year with all the Autumn colours are breathtaking. It has the advantage of being off the beaten track, but yet still being near enough to Keswick and all it's conveniences. We hAD A WONDERFUL 4 DAYS THERE.

The ideal place to get away from it all
We found the cottage to be ideal for our needs. We were all very happy sitting in the garden having a beer looking at the wonderful view and watching our three Staffies run around the garden. Every day the young bullocks from the farm next door came over to visit the dogs, which we thought was funny. We all loved our time at the Badger Sett and are already planning next years return. There was no Wi-Fi , only negative.

Peaceful with stunning views
We (2 adults and our 3 children aged 9, 13 &15) stayed for a long weekend in Feb. The house is lovely and in a peaceful area with fantastic views from the lounge and master bedroom. We had great weather and there is plenty of walking in the area. The house itself is well equipped and both the bathroom and shower room are beautiful. The master bedroom (which is huge) has a wood burner, which was lovely to escape from the boys for an hour on an evening whilst they played on the Wii. The bedrooms are all very big rooms and the whole house was immaculate. We were very lucky as there was no one staying before us and the owners VERY kindly said we could check in early which was great. Thanks for sharing your great house we would definately stay again.
