Great cabin which felt like home with all the amenities. The deck was large and we enjoyed eating outdoors. The cabin is a short drive to the lake.

The cabin is very spacious, has a well equipped kitchen and is conveniently located. Thanks to rain and snow, we couldn’t venture into the lake at all, but thoroughly enjoyed the cabin itself and drove to nearby destinations. Highly recommend the place!

About the neighborhood
The historic town of Truckee was established in the early 1860s as a stage stop on the newly built wagon road (now Donner Pass Road) from Sacramento to Virginia City, and as a growing lumbering center to provide timbers for the booming Comstock silver mines. Truckee also became an important site in the building of the first transcontinental railroad. From around 1910 through the 1930s Truckee became a filming location for many (almost 100) early Hollywood movies, including 'The Gold Rush' with Charlie Chaplin. As an interesting side note, Charlie Chaplin’s set designer built one of the first cabins (some say the first) on Donner Lake, where Charlie stayed while filming in the area. This cabin is three doors down the lane from ours.
How to get there
Our cabin is located five miles from the town of Truckee, California, nestled high in the Sierras. The area is easily accessed from the San Francisco Bay Area, about 4 hours by car, and from Reno, Nevada (and Reno-Tahoe International Airport), about 40 minutes -- both by way of Interstate I-80. IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR WINTER GUESTS: During winter months we often get heavy snows and icy road conditions. While local roads and our parking area have snow removal service provided, we consider four-wheel-drive and winter tires a necessity, as tire chains can be an impractical alternative.
