Charming log house is located in a wooded setting in a cleared area of property. House is quiet and set back on the east side of Patrick's Point Dr; homes on the other side of the road are ocean-front. We're located between downtown Trinidad and Patrick's Point State Park. Downtown Trinidad is 2.5 miles south of us, and Patrick's Point State Park is 2.5 miles North. Murphy's market is the local Trinidad market and has organic vegetables, fresh local fish and many other local items. It's a full service grocery store. There are also several nice restaurants in and around Trinidad. There is a golf course near the airport about 8 to ten miles. Within a 8 minute walk from the house, the Larrupin Cafe offers jazz in the summers, fresh fish and grass fed meats, a free hors d'oeuvres board for the table, and wonderful desserts.
The Moonstone Grill at Moonstone Beach is a short drive south and offers wonderful, comparable food and an unobstructed view of the Pacific especially beautiful at sunset. Nearby 2 miles North of our property you'll find Patrick's Point State Park, with archaeological sites of Yurok tribes, paths both through the forests and to rocky overlooks and down to the ocean where seals are often just out of arms reach.
30 minutes North is the best hiking among old growth redwoods, that we've seen in California. There are several days worth of trails, both level and challenging and short loops on these trails along the creek and through the redwoods. Also at Prairie Creek State Park there are herds of elk and Fern Canyon documented on the KPBS series, 'California's Gold'. Pictures of Fern canyon can be found on Google maps. You'll find many miles of peaceful road biking and beautiful forest trails for mountain bikes. Kayaks can be rented on some of the lagoons. If you love to fly fish, there is catch and release fly fishing on the Snake River.
If you prefer to bring your catch home, there are many rivers with salmon and steelhead trout. Crabs and halibut can be netted/caught in the lagoons. There are miles of deserted beaches to explore and many rivers and streams. The Arcata Airport is about 18 miles south and just south of is the college town of Arcata. We discovered this area when our daughter started her classes at Humboldt State University. You'll be able to pick blueberries in nearby Mckinleyville at Wolfsen Farms.
College Cove State Beach can be accessed from downtown Trinidad and through the forest off of Stagecoach Road.
