Yosemite is one of our planet’s most beautiful places but you don't have to wait to be captured by nature's splendor. Starlit Chalet is a real mountain lodge sitting on a real mountain ridge 3,800’ high in view of thousands of Ponderosa Pines, Oaks and Cedars. There is a constant explosion of beauty outside every window. Starlit evenings perfect for romance. A dance floor. Stargaze from the deck. Look, there's Orion! Folks love the privacy, quiet ... no traffic noise, pure air and sweet, non-chlorinated water. The chalet is a comfortable base from which to launch serious explorations of Yosemite and the Sierra. Days begin with animated fly-ins of wild doves, stellar jays, dark-eyed juncos, and grosbeaks competing for birdseed on our deck. Squirrels join the party. Often, wild turkeys and a gray fox. Deer cross the meadow. After Mother Nature's morning shock and awe, the deck bell sounds; time to head for Yosemite! Be distracted at night by the light emanating from the moon and billions of galaxies that populate a vast window to the Southern Sky. You don't need a Hubble telescope to enjoy the parade of the universe’s celestial extravagance – our star chart will do the job just fine. About the neighborhood
In Gold Country Mariposa you will enjoy the museums, visit one of our state's oldest newspapers, and tour California's oldest active courthouse. Dine elegantly and shop in Old Town’s quaint shops. History is alive in Mariposa! On a hot summer day, stick your toes in the water at Briceburg on the Merced River. Cross the swinging bridge at Briceburg and drive north along the river to find state parks with beaches, picnic facilities, hiking, kayaking, fishing and wildlife. In May and early June, white-water rafting is available.
Getting around
A great, inexpensive way to visit Yosemite and avoid traffic is to take the YARTS bus. It includes admission to the Park and you can bring your bikes. A YARTS free parking area and bus stop is 25 minutes from the chalet.
