Graeagle, Plumas County, California
This classic mountain cabin, which we have named "Mt. Elwell," is located at the edge of the northern Sierra Nevada's Mohawk Valley, just a few miles outside of Graeagle/Blairsden. We are 1 hour west from Reno, 50 miles north of Truckee, and 2.5 hours from the Sacramento area. Mt. Elwell is one of a cluster of cabins that were part of the lumber mill known as the Penman Peak Lumber Company that was established in the mid-1920's. With nearly a mile of a National Wild and Scenic River, the Middle Fork of the Feather River winds through our 40 acres and can be viewed from the private back deck. Located along scenic Highway 70, the property is surrounded by U.S. Forest Service land and to add a nostalgic reminder of our industrial age in transition, the Western Pacific railway snakes along the river the length of the pro... Everything was great and it's a nice little walk down to the river. Janet who runs the rental was great to work with! One queen bed and 4 twin beds (3 bedrooms total). The one inconvenience was that there is only one shower in the cabin and it's tucked away in one of the bedrooms with twin beds. The bathroom shared by the master and the other bedroom with twin beds only had a bathtub...

Stayed for 2 nights in July, 3 couples. The cabin was amazing...rustic enough for the setting but immaculate, well furnished and had everything we needed for meal preparation. Just need to bring the food. Our stay was a great combination of relaxation and hiking, etc. in the local area, which has so much to offer. The hosts were perfect. Wished we had been able to stay longer and definitely plan to return!

We had a wonderful time at this cabin. It is a beautiful old cabin with a lot of charm. The setting is beautiful. We will definitely go back.
