Its layout is fairly unique with mezzanine type sleeping accommodation via a steep wooden ladder. Bedding and towels are provided. The Dairy has a fully equipped compact kitchen and a shower room on the ground floor. Tea and coffee basics are provided for your arrival so you can arrange a hot drink before you unpack. Unlike many other venues, we provide tea towels, an oven glove, cooking oil and salt and pepper with the intention to make your stay as stress free and comfortable as possible. On top of the central heating, the Dairy is equipped with a wood-burning stove and there is a supply of logs just outside....Set back from the main Hall and nestling in its own woodland garden is the former Dairy. With the Dairy comes a good sized private wooded garden with BBQ and picnic bench. There is parking for up to two cars right outside the Dairy. Due to unique style of the Dairy, it is not suitable for those who struggle on their feet. Unavoidable stone steps lead down to the front door. There is free WiFi in the Dairy. The Dairy is just a 10 minute walk away from the villages of Glenridding and Patterdale, where you will find a couple of shops, pubs and cafes. Please note that Vodafone is currently the only mobile phone coverage in the immediate area, others are available just a short drive out of the village ( or on top of the surrounding hills!). Prior to your arrival we will email you a link to a video about the Dairy which covers certain health + safety elements of the Dairy. You will need to complete an online form to confirm all guests have seen this.

Had a good few nights stay ,2nd time here and only real complaint is that the shower pressure is very weak, apart from that I would return again .

Thanks for the review. Checked the shower out, it’s always been that good….. adequate but not massaging. All the best.

Cute, quirky, lovely location - perfect little escape!
We enjoyed a four night stay recently. Fantastic location for what we wanted to do - enjoyed the walks, lake boating trip and pubs. The property is perfect for couples wanting an escape and, although a bit older with the bathroom and décor, the property is spacious and great garden. The fire was a life-saver with ample supplies for it and the stairs to the bedroom were not a problem at all - and I'm saying this at 7 months pregnant! Would most defiantly like to stay again. The guy running it was very helpful and actually on site if we had needed anything. (NB no shower issue as someone else had mentioned and not a noisy boiler so don't be put off - they must have been fixed).

Thanks. We did fix the shower as soon as it was reported. Boiler is just an immersion heater in a tank. Thanks for pointing those out. Great review. T

The Dairy
I absolutely love the location of this place. The accommodation gives everything we need to relax in the evening after a day of walking in the amazing scenery. Tried to book for same time next year but it’s already booked so we are now going to try and book for spring. Can’t wait to visit again.

The dairy
We come to the lake District every year for 2 weeks and have stayed in the Dairy Cottage twice. The first time we stayed we enjoyed it alot there was a fantastic garden for the dog to play in and a log burner to keep us warm and snug. We did however get the impression that everything there was ("that'll do") the boiler was very loud and the bathroom and shower needs a good bit of work done to it as the shower head doesn't stay straight and droops leaving it hard to shower. The place is lovely and quaint but needs a bit of cash put into into it to make it pop. We stayed again this year and found the same problems as last holiday and probably won't be booking again. Pros: great location, log burner, big garden. Cons: needs cash put into it, loud boiler, shower head.

The DAIRY PATTERDALE
The garden is good if you have a dog secure ,we have stayed twice now and it’s a nice base for walking, the upstairs bedroom could do with a fan as it’s hot and a washing line would be useful, the tin opener wasn’t great we bought one there was a lot of spider’s in the bathroom and bedroom so netting would be useful, but having said that there are lovely walks nearby.

Great location
The Dairy has pretty much all you need for a comfortable stay although a small dishwasher would be helpful I assume if a family was staying. The ladder to the bedroom is ok if you’re ok with that sort of thing. If you need a leak at 3.30 am it’s a pain you could do without though. If you are even slightly limited physically give it some serious thought. Ironically in light of previous comments I found the bed to be super comfy and, due to a dodgy back, I can count on one hand the number of times I have experienced that in the past 10 years. Top tip: don’t drop your phone down the side of the bed. You will never see it again as the bed is crowbarred into the space that it occupies and the only access is from the end of the bed. Clothes storage is very limited as previous reviews have said Another top tip: when I arrived there was a plug in fragrance diffuser polluting the place. If this is your thing it’s happy days. Personally it’s mustard gas as far as I am concerned. It went straight outside but it saturates the soft furnishings and doesn’t do you any good. Hopefully we will soon follow the example of other countries and ban this stuff in public spaces. The place is brilliantly located and was spotlessly clean. It was great to get up Helvellyn straight from the front door and there are plenty of pubs and restaurants in Patterdale and Glenridding. I’d stay again (if they’d have me after this) but would request the removal of the diffuser before I arrive.

Thanks for the review. Noted on your view on the smelly diffuser. As a property that accepts dogs, some would say it’s smells better than damp dog, but of course that is subjective too! Of course we can remove it in advance if you pre-warn us. Best Wishes.

A lovely quirky gem of a place
A charming quirky place surprisingly larger than expected with everything that you need and in beautiful grounds of Patterdale hall . The ladder to the loft was A little too steep for me but we got scrummy smelling bedding for the sofa bed from the hall as requested and the sofa bed was comfy enough. The garden is enclosed and sooo quiet our elderly terrier loved it and the waterfall walk beautiful we have really enjoyed our weekend stay and have booked to return in the summer
