All of the rooms are on the same level, with level access from the large, private car park. Cars can approach close to the main entrance of Thairn cottage for loading.
Relax in your private south-facing conservatory, or in a recliner on the patio, watching the wildlife, admire the garden, walk-in our fields and along the riverside, or snuggle up in front of your cosy log-burning stove.
Thairn cottage has a light & airy living room with ample space for comfortable seating and also dining. The separate kitchen is well equipped with a dishwasher, fridge freezer, hob and microwave oven & conventional oven and grill. The bathroom has a bath and a separate shower. On-site there is a lockable cycle shed that can also store your golfing or fishing equipment and a separate laundry with a washing machine and tumble drier for the use of guests. Each cottage has a heated drying cupboard. We have always scored 100% (5 star excellent) for cleanliness and management when inspected by Visit Scotland.
Coronavirus~ We are continuing to take precautions to minimise the risk of the spread of coronavirus. I will leave your cottage unlocked for your arrival and you can phone me with any questions. We will leave instructions for the equipment in the cottage for you. I have purchased extra duvets and pillows so we can change duvets, pillows, mattress protectors (as well as bed linen and towels) between guests. We will carry out extra cleaning as per the very detailed protocol from the Scottish Government. I have completed the recommended cleaning/ disinfection training as recommended for holiday cottage cleaners.
Thairn Cottage is located within 50 minutes drive of Edinburgh, from the east coast beaches with superb coastal scenery, Border towns, Cheviot and Ettrick hills. Ideal for visiting the many abbeys, gardens and stately homes which are found nearby (Floors Castle and Mellerstain House are just a few minutes away). Thairn cottage is only 3 miles from Kelso with its splendid square, majestic abbey ruins, racecourse, individual shops, and a wide selection of places to eat.
The quiet country roads are a joy for motorists and cyclists alike. More adventurous mountain bikers can test their nerves on the Glentress trails. For the less daring, the Borders offers a wide variety of golf courses, fishing, horse-riding, (riding stables next door), walking - from strenuous hikes up the Cheviot to peaceful strolls amongst the splendid Borders scenery - or admiring the textiles, pottery, woodwork and paintings on show in the numerous studios and galleries to be found within the area.....and you can return to relax in the peace of Burnbrae.

Beautiful cottage; beautiful rural setting; in beautiful Scottish Borders.
Arriving at this accommodation was a genuine delight. Everything was clean and sparkling. Set in lovely gardens, looking out over the beautiful Scottish Borders countryside. The conservatory, with its views and the bird feeders outside, proved to be a favourite place to sit at any time of the day. All our needs for a week's break "away from it all" were here in this accommodation. Ten minutes drive into Kelso, but also brilliantly placed to visit lots of rural and heritage attractions. In addition, there were lovely walks to be had directly from the front door. The owner was around and always on hand to answer any queries or to offer helpful information, but never intruded. A great folder of information was available, together with useful books and other guides. This accommodation, in a genuinely very rural setting, was excellent.

Very comfortable, well sited with its conservatory views, and well located.
It was just right for us and the type of break we wanted with good walking and the town of Kelso nearby. We enjoyed 3 full days of being out all day in our short break. In the evening we were able to prepare our meal in the well equipped kitchen and then relax in great comfort. All in all an excellent place that we will plan to visit again. We have already recommended it to friends.

Spring holiday
We stayed for a week and had a wonderful time. The cottage is in a beautiful setting, the gardens are lovely and we enjoyed being able to sit in the conservatory and enjoy the spring sunshine.
There is so much to do in the local area and it is only a short distance into Kelso, with lots of local shops, large supermarkets and very good restaurants.
We managed a day trip into Edinburgh, using the train station nearby, as well as heading to the coast and hills for lots of beautiful walks.

great place to stay
Our 9th stay in Thairn cottage, the cottage was beautifully clean as usual and it was lovely to see Yvette again as she is so welcoming.
Thairn cottage at Nenthorne nr Kelso is a beautiful place to stay, there are lovely views of the countryside and many interesting places to visit and explore, Eyemouth, Jedburgh and Born in the Borders can be recommended One visit is definately not enough, Kelso is one of my favourite places to go.

Another great week at Burnbrae
Great rural location with views from the conservatory to Eden Water, only two miles from the historic abbey town of Kelso, well worth taking the time to explore, and with easy driving to many other Border villages and towns. The cottage itself couldn't be better equipped or more comfortable, Yvette having thought of everything to make it relaxed and welcoming.

Fabulous place for a relaxing holiday
This Easter marks our 8th visit to Thairn Cottage. It is our little oasis of peace and calm. Situated just outside Kelso the cottage is one of three converted from an old barn. The views are of a beautifully kept garden and beyond to fields. We enjoy walking and there are some great circular walks in the area ranging from 2 miles to 15 miles and they are all well signposted. The little town of Kelso about 4 miles away is delightful with small independent shops to a large Sainsburys. The cottage has every amenity including a log stove which we sometimes prefer to use than the central heating :-) Overall a great trip and highly recommended.

Burnbrae is located in the heart of the Scottish Borders, 3 miles from the picturesque, abbey town of Kelso. Kelso is regarded as one of the most charming and beautiful towns in the Scottish Borders complete with cobbled streets, large market square, elegant Georgian buildings and of course the River Tweed and Teviot which are well known for their spectacular fishing. Kelso has many fantastic restaurants and a farmers market. The farmers market and musical events are held in the square.The local area has many golf courses including Kelso, the Roxburgh and the Hiersel. The Kelso Race course is between Burnbrae and Kelso, near Floors Castle.The Border Show Ground in Kelso has many different types of events. Kelso Civic Week is held in July each year.
