Cottage
The original stone dwelling was a farm in the 1900s.
In 1999 it was rebuilt around the two remaining original stone walls. The final result is a charming stone cottage with a private garden.
The house is fully equipped and very comfortable. It is a short walk from the lake which is wonderful to swim in in the Summer and Autumn. This is a great place for serious R&R. You can catch up on your reading in the garden or get on one of the bikes and explore the countryside.
There is a BBQ and a terraced area where you can dine al fresco.
The house is ideal for couples and for families as the area offers something for everyone, from the countryside to interesting towns such as Tomar, Abrantes, Fatima and the walled town of Obidos.

Tolles Haus

Most romantic sunset ever, quiet residence.
We had a splendid holiday in this quiet cottage. A very handy kitchen with everything you need even an extensive choice of good English teas. The diner room next to the kitchen is handy and has a beautiful view over the valley and a great sunset you will never forget. The terrace is nice and you can pass your drinks via the kitchen window. We had not to hot weather, so it was no problem to sleep under the roof (the bedroom), when it is extremely hot I guess it will be a bit to hot there. There is a nice café in the village where you can eat really good fresh typical Portuguese meals with the locals at a very low price.

Beautiful cottage with superb views in a rural location
The stone-built cottage is in a very beautiful rural location, amidst the hills and close to the lakes formed behind the dam at Castelo do Bode. Inside it has a very comfortable feel and is well equipped. You can dine in the separate dining room with a fantastic view and also an outside patio area with seating for at least six, sheltered from the wind.
Wi-fi is through a mobile hotspot, but was reasonably fast provided you located the hotspot in the living room window or near the front door.
The location was convenient for visiting the sights of central Portugal, with Tomar, Batalha, Alcobaça, Nazaré and Coimbra in easy reach.
The property was very easy to find thanks to Wilf's and Simona's excellent directions provided beforehand. Dona Olinda, who met us with the key, does not speak English, but apparently does speak French, which would have been good to know! Her young son was very helpful in English.

Home from home in a stunning scenic rural setting.
Casa de Pedra is everything as described by the owners. It is a little bit tricky to find and had to call the house keeper when we got there but she lives just up the road so she arrived in minutes. We were very lucky with the weather and didn't see a cloud the whole week. The house is beautiful with an easy walk down to the lake. It was hot enough to swin but the lake was very low so couldn't really get down to it. There are various split levels within the house and quite tricky steps from the car park to the door so not really suitable for someone not so good on their legs. As you can imagine at this time of year, it was chilly inside but there were plenty of logs provided and once the fire was lit it was lovely and cosy. Unfortunately, in November, the various patios were in shade but managed to get some sun on the patio by the door. Everything you need is there, we had to wash the towels as they were a little musty, but soon had them washed and dried and fresh. The double bed is very comfortable and I slept really well which I don't normally do, could be something to do with the very good local red wine.
As Lusitano owners and breeders we spent a few days at Golega Horse Fair but also travelled around the area quite a lot. The house is really well situated for sight seeing but away from it all at the same time.
Lovely lovely house, would definitely like to stay there again next time.

simple and calm property with garden, located near a little visited part of the lake
My children - two boys ages 8 and 10- and I very much enjoyed staying in this nicely organized and very calm and quiet property located near the lake in the hills of Portugal. As one other reviewer has mentioned the place was hard to find, but as soon as I called Simona, she organized with Dona Olinda the caretaker to meet us and drive us to the house. Dona Olinda also brought her sister to translate (though later we worked out that we both speak French) and give us information about the house. We all enjoyed the house and its proximity to the lake. This bit of the lake was very quiet - there were only other people there during the weekend. Dona Olinda was also a great help - as I'm traveling solo with the boys right now - and came in and cleaned for us daily and did laundry when needed. I also went running on some of the beautiful back roads in the area. We enjoyed riding at o vale dos cavalos - stables run by an English lady (my boys don't speak portuguese) and went almost every day to the nearby hotel segredo de vale manso for dessert and fruit for the boys and access to their business center for me. a great stay - i'd highly recommend the owner, the house and the area.

CHARMING AND RUSTIC
Although we experienced a little trouble locating this charming and rustic cottage (thank you Simone for arranging an escort from Serra), we found everything we needed to make our stay very pleasant and comfortable. Despite the weather being extremely hot, the cottage remained quite cool inside and enjoying a drink in the peace and quiet of the garden terrace after sundown following a busy day site seeing was a joy to experience. Finding the cottage may be a little easier if these minor adjustments to Wilf's directions are followed: when coming from Lisbon on the A1, take the A23 exit at 94kms (not 97) signposted Torres Novas, Entroncamento (no mention of Tomar). Then having driven through the main square in Serra and passed through the village of Venda, at the y-junction stay left (not right) then continue on as directed.

Thank you Mary and Alan and glad you enjoyed the cottage and its garden. And yes, a glass of wine in the garden at sunset is unbeatable! Thank you for the tweaks to the directions - we´ll update accordingly.
We hope you come back soon!

Back Again🌻
When we decided to sell and move to Portugal, last July, part of the reason was falling in love with this stone house and the surrounding area. It is just peaceful and beautiful here. So, when we found out we had a few weeks to spend before the purchase of our stone cottage, here in Portugal, of course we wanted to stay again at Casa de Pedra. The house has all the amenities one needs, and the close location to the lake, means lots of lovely walks each day! I am telling friends and family that if they want to come visit, they can stay with me, but if they want to enjoy a bit of time exploring on their own, they should book here! Thank you Simona and Family for letting us enjoy yet again a really lovely visit to this beautiful part of Portugal.

Beautiful Lakeside Stone Cottage
We loved our long stay at Casa de Pedra. We found this beautiful stone cottage both peaceful and super equipped. The house is very comfortable and has a great view of the countryside and lake. A bread truck goes right by every morning and we loved not only the fresh rolls but also the pastries😄. We walked everywhere around the lake, so pretty to explore. Located just outside of Tomar, we found it quite easy to go exploring. Easy access to the ic9 and A23 meant trips to Nazare , Batalha, Alcabasa, Leira, Ourem and Fatima to name a few😄. This was our third visit to Central Portugal and we are hooked. Thank you Simona and Wilf for creating such a lovely holiday home to stay in🌻. We look forward to contacting you again to arrange another visit to Casa de Pedra. Warmest Regards. Melissa and Tim Koscinski.
