The town of Escazu is on the outskirts of San Jose. So you have San Jose to explore, if you enjoy big city life. The house is 150 years old and was owned by a coffee plantation owner. We stayed in the largest of the three rooms available. We had a king size bed and a outside balcony. The bathroom is shared with one of the other bedrooms, but we were the only people staying in the three weeks we were there. There are grocery stores and coffee cafés within walking distance. The town is on the side of the mountain, so you need to be able to walk up and down the hills. The owners were wonderful to us and the maid service was the best we ever had. She would clean the room, change the sheets on the bed and give us clean towel every two days. She also did our laundry, but we did give her money for doing that. The house offers yoga classes several times a week. They also have a weekly nightly meditation session. They also did some detoxing treatments on us for free. San Jose has several museums and night clubs where you can dance the night away. The tours to the volcanoes, the rain forests, beaches and other atractions are 2 to 4 hours away. Some of the tours could be further. The weekly farmers market in town is wonderful. There is a great pizza restaurant just up the hill from the house. Further up the mountain their are other restaurant that have breathtaking views of San Jose. Uber is available and is much cheaper than taxis. If you want to live with the locals and not in a hotel resort, then this is the place for you. Their is no TV’s, but their is WiFi. The only thing missing was a jacuzzi hot tub. They have a nice garden area for one jacuzzi and hopefully they will put one in someday soon.
