Tucked away in a cozy corner of the Guindon farm is this farm house, built in 2008. It's principally constructed of locally grown and harvested woods combined with cement cinder block lower walls. Large windows and skylights allow for plenty of natural lighting and views throughout most of the house. The fully equipped kitchen, two bathrooms, living and laundry area allows for a comfortable living atmosphere. We are surrounded by a small forest, that allows for our guests to get a first hand experience of nature. The two upstairs bedrooms have views directly out to the surrounding trees. All guests have access to a free covered drive through parking area just a few steps from the house. Heavy drinking and loud noises are not allowed. In case of power outage: there are candles and matches next to the wood stove. Keep matches and lighters out of reach of children. Our water comes from mountain springs in the Monteverde Preserve so it’s perfectly safe to drink. Help us by using it wisely Electricity is produced here without the use of fossil fuels. However, that comes with an extra cost, so it’s important to only use the lights and appliances you need during the time necessary.

Interaction with guests: My husband and I are retired and as most grandparents, enjoy spending as much time we can will our grandchildren though they live in the US. This doesn't impair us to keep in close contact with all our guests from the time you book with us until the end of your visit.

About the neighborhood
Monteverde is a rural community founded in 1951 by Quaker families that moved from the US for a new start in their lives. Located at an altitude of about 5000 ft above sea level, this beautiful area has been carefully kept with natural surroundings by several biological preserves, the most outstanding one, is the Monteverde Cloud Forest Preserve, just a short distance from the Farm House Retreat. The nearby town of Santa Elena has all you need for your necessary commodities such as restaurants, banks, pharmacies, a clinic and all the adventure agencies for zip lines, suspension bridges, coffee tours, etc.
Getting around
Costa Rica in general has one of the best public transportation services in all of Central America. However knowing that your visit is gold, we recommend that a rental car be the best way to get to see the most in that time. Still, within the area of Monteverde, there are plenty of taxis, shuttle buses, and public buses to get around in. Many people however, walk to and from their destinations as about everything is close by.

The directions for getting here are probably pretty easy to follow on Google maps by just typing in cloud forest cottage, monteverde, puntarenas and get our exact location and how to get here, but we have instructions that we have prepared to help you get here a little easier, especially on your last lap before getting here, as part of them can be a bit confusing. Also, because there are three principal routs that access Monteverde, we always would like to know from where you're coming from so as to provide you with more precise directions
