So rude
I could not recommend this hostel to anyone at all. After making my booking, (even though nowhere on their website does it say children are not allowed in the dorms, infact it says family friendly and great for kids) they insisted I move the booking to a more expensive private room. They offered this at a fairly better rate than normal as they hadn't been clear anywhere during the booking process or via their website that children were not welcome elsewhere in the hostel. They then changed their mind and said that rate wasn't available and I would have to pay the full rate instead. When I went back to booking.com to clarify my son's age booking.com suggested a bunk bed instead. When I communicated this to the hostel they insisted I cancel my reservation and that if I arrived as booked they would turn me and my toddler away. Very strange way to treat and communicate with potential clients the week before Christmas. At this point I gladly cancelled as they had been so unclear, bad at communicating, rude and unhelpful.

Worst Hostel ever
The Oasis Hostel was the worst place I've been during my trip. The common area is full of sand and there is nowhere to wipe your feet properly, so the ground of the bathroom and the dorm is full of sand. Also, the bathrooms are very dirty, as well as the kitchen, so that you prefer to avoid the rooms completely and you won't desire to cook in the greasy pans. The cleanliness is very neglected in this hostel. Also, the customer service is poor, because except for the hostel owner only volunteers with little knowledge work, so you have to wait a long time until requests are met. The cleaning lady takes the wet clothes from the dorm without saying it on the side (there are a few clotheslines outside where you should hang the clothes, where the clothes are on one hand even wetter than before and in addition stink cruelly). So I lost 2 pieces of clothing during this stay. Never go to this hostel!

Tom scams solo travelers
Tom the owner, is a scam artist. First he tries to charge 650 colones instead of 600 for the US dollar. I asked him about it and he said he always does this but I’ve never been to anywhere else in Costa Rica were they charge that much as a conversion rate it was always 600. The whole time I was checking in he was asking me a lot of personal questions and just being creepy. I got bad vibes from him. Next I asked not to stay the second night, and he would not refund me and instead charged me both nights. I couldn’t pay with card because he says he charges an extra 30% if you pay with a credit card so you have to pay in cash. Didn’t say that on Booking, and it should, because 30% is a lot and most people pay with card. After leaving the first night and returning the key even though I paid for two, I got an email from booking thing that I never checked in. I go back because I believe he also wants to charge my card on Booking even though I paid him in cash. I go back and ask for a receipt and he gives me a sloppy signature that booking would not accept. So I have to go back again and ask for a better receipt and this time he refuses to give me one. He is a total scam artist and takes advantage because I’m a solo female traveler. He then threatens me and tells me to “get the F off his property” Just because I asked for a valid receipt. He pushes me physically and then threatens to call the cops. I said that’s fine and I wait for the cops to get there. The cop listen to the situation and agreed he should just have given me a valid receipt. The cop then interrogate him over what happened because he is scamming travelers like myself and charging them without giving them a receipt. The cops asked him to give me a receipt and he wrote a better one but he refused to give me an email to one even though the cops asked him to. Overall this took a very long time and was a huge drama and Tom the owner is a real piece of trash. Avoid this like the plague.

They double booked my room and asked me to cancel my booking
Well the title says it all. I am travelling to Costa Rica on my own (F 29) in October 2019 and spent ages trying to find the most affordable single rooms for my trip because I don’t want to stay in dorms. I booked a room at Oasis months in advance and they just emailed me telling me I had to cancel my booking because the room was not available anymore. I asked why and they wouldn’t answer and told me that “luckily they told me enough in advance that it allows me to look for another room”. They finally told me why after asking again and said the room got double booked on another site. Gotta find somewhere else now I guess. Such a waste of my time.

NIGHTMARE!!! PESADILLA EN ESTE HOSTAL, NOS AMARGÓ LAS VACACIONES
Hola a todos, Hello travellers worldwide!! Es necesario que compartamos con vosotros la pesadilla que vivimos en este Hostel. We need to share our bad bad experience in this hostel. We lived the worse nightmare in this hostel. Photos online have nothing to do with reality. All access to the beach with no plants or flowers at all, all furniture ruined and very old, lots of tents right in front of our "private" bungalow and BIG BIG isolation problems so that many bugs can come in too easily, it's like sleeping outdoors: mosquitos, cockroaches and a huge rat inside our room that ate our fruit and pooped the bed and windows and decided to stay on the roof of our room. We informed the manager and the only solution he gave us was putting some poison for the next day. We refused to sleep with such a rat on our heads and decided to leave the hostel and he didn't want to give us our money back. We foud ourselves looking for a new place at 23h00. Oasis Beach Front, What a nightmare!!!!! Thanks a lot Tom...

Oasis has my heart forever!
Where to start. I spent 6 weeks at this hostel whilst volunteering at the Jaguar Rescue Centre a few kilometres away. I stayed in the dorm room for the duration of my stay and rented a bicycle to commute to the Centre, all for a very reasonable price. Having checked out all of the other hostels in the local area, this was just so far above the rest, it didn’t even compare. Oasis became much more than a place to sleep at night, it was like a home for me. The owners Tom and Hadas became my friends, and I loved their friendly, relaxed nature. The hostel itself was comfortable, chilled out, and very clean. I loved the outdoor kitchen (which is really well equipped) and shower, which made me feel free. It was in a great location, close enough to town to access the beach, bar and restaurants, but far enough away to avoid noise, and feel immersed in the jungle. The beautiful trees were home to lots of animals, from howler monkeys most days, to a sloth mother and her baby one day! The hostel attracts lovely people, and consequently I made some amazing friends for life. There are two resident dogs and a cat at the hostel, who brightened up my days and added even more personality to the hostel (Layla, I love you!) I will definitely return to Oasis hostel one day. It will remain with me for the rest of my life. Tom, Hadas, Layla, Cooper and Cookie, I miss you all! Lots of love, Zoe.

Horrible y mala onda
Mala ondas!. No tiene señalización y cuesta encontrarlo. El mar lleno de rocas. Ruidos de todo tipo. Horrible!

Chill vibe
We had agreat stay at Oasis. It has a chill vibe, right on the beach, a few minute walk to the restaurants. The hosts were very friendly too. I'd definitely stay there again.

A backpacker's paradise hostel in Puerto Viejo
As it's name suggests, Oasis really is a little paradise in the beautiful Caribbean town of Puerto Viejo. Great location, just a few minutes walk from town but yet in a peaceful location and right in front of the Caribbean Sea. You can walk the beautiful footpaths along the beach and through the forest to the town or to the surfers paradise of Cocles beach. Great Italian bakery and local restaurants on your doorstep. The hostel is ran by very friendly Tom and Haddas, they will make you feel very welcome and the place has a super chilled, friendly and homely vibe. Perfect for meeting fellow backpackers and travellers from all over the world, it has a good dorm room and two private rooms, with a couple of spaces for tents in the garden, by the beach. The facilities are basic and clean, the kitchen and communal area over looks the sea and you can chill in the hammocks in the pretty garden. Overall great value, nice atmosphere, perfect location and good facilities if you're on a budget - all the elements of a fantastic hostel choice in Puerto Viejo!
