You will also have access to the upstairs guest bath with a shower if you prefer or need a second bathroom to use. Please be considerate as the guest bathroom is shared and intended for folks renting the two guest bedrooms upstairs (just ask about the other rooms if you need more space). There is an open common area downstairs with a big screen television, cable TV, dining room and modern fully equipped kitchen with reverse osmosis purified water. The house has two other guest bedrooms upstairs which are available for separate rental. The overall public area of the house is shared among guests unless you choose to rent all of the rooms which are not currently listed yet. Downstairs there is one separate bedroom with a shower and sink and a half bath (toilet and pedestal sink). A security code lock is installed on the master bedroom door and you will be given a unique code to use the door during your stay. For your security, codes are changed for each guest and the room has its own personal electronic safe for your valuables.
This is a gated community with on street parking available and 24/7 guards patrolling the property. While we always have felt very safe in the neighborhood, please do not leave valuables in your vehicle or within sight.
The 'Scorpio' gym is walking distance and gives out a free 1 week trial membership if you show some interest although just taking a walk around the neighborhood is a great way to take in some exercise. There are also two playgrounds in the neighborhood and one large garden area down the street with a full size basketball court available for use.
This elegant townhouse is unit 1-E-1 in the Villa Dolores gated community. My wife and I sat on the balcony and delighted in the sunset every evening. After sunset we saw the lights of the Heredia - San Jose area spread out before us.
We enjoyed the well equipped kitchen which includes a sophisticated microwave- convection oven combo. The large two door refrigerator includes an ice maker. We ran the dishwasher when we left. Owner Michael seems to be a gadget geek. The entertainment center has a multitude of options including a very large television set with cable including a Miami station. The DVD collection includes the Shawshank Redemption, one of the great movies of all time.
The king sized bed was very comfortable. As Michael's listing shows, guests have a choice of a hot tub with shower or a large walk in shower just across the hall. Given that I have mechanical hips, I chose that shower.
We walked to the Basilica and my new FitBit counted 6800+ steps round trip. The best route into town is via Calle Kamuk, the street alongside the Chinese restaurant. We enjoyed a meal at that Cantonese restaurant but the 150+ menu choices were overwhelming!
We did have one problem. The garage was a snug fit for our rented Toyota Corolla but the sensor system would not allow the door to close. We released the latch and closed the garage door but then we should have locked the door in place. We did not but I am confident that the guards on 24 hour duty protect the area. On street parking is permitted.

Thank you for your thoughtful review and running the dishwasher before leaving. We are happy to hear that you really enjoyed your stay at our home. It's always a nice escape from our hectic life in the U.S. We always feel very safe in our neighborhood and typically park on the street but I have a feeling the garage sensor may have been misaligned or a little flakey and we are going to go ahead and have it replaced. Thanks again for being such nice guests.

The neighborhood is called Villa Dolores and used to be a coffee farm years ago before the owners sold the area to a private developer. There are a mix of locals and Expats living in the neighborhood. The location is just outside of downtown Heredia (a 20min walk or so) or just minutes by Taxi or Uber. You can visit the 'Marino' general store up the street (turn right outside of the neighborhood or get fresh bread, a variety of imported and local brews in great food at Fresh Market about a quarter mile from the entrance to the neighborhood.
Getting around
Uber and taxis are available or you can rent a car. You can use our garage for up to 1 car but due to size limitations it has to be a sedan or smaller SUV (like a Toyota Rav4 or Honda CRV style). A large pickup will not fit in the garage but there is on-street parking as the street is very wide in front of the house.
