This Spanish style villa is nestled in the foothills above two of Costa Rica's most idyllic beaches -- Playa Samara and Playa Carrillo. Apart from all the modern interior conveniences of a 4-year old home (ceiling fans, air conditioning, recessed lighting, fully equipped kitchen with granite counters and teak cabinets), outdoors Casa Libre has an expansive veranda, stunning rooftop observatory pavillion, infinity pool and palm-thatched rancho with bar and grill.
Playa Samara is a beach destination for internationals seeking the the adventures of surfing, snorkeling, sea kayaking, paddle-boarding, beach volleyball, horseback riding, fishing, of course swimming, jungle ziplining, and beachfront restaurants and bars. Samara has surf schools and yoga studios. It's a lively village and only 1.5 miles from the house. Playa Carrillo is a palm-lined stretch of white sand beach favored by locals throughout Costa Rica and travelers, alike, because of its beauty. It's perfect for swimming, sunbathing, tidal pool exploring, snorkeling, or lounging in a hammock under the shade of the palms, and only 4 miles from the house.
Melissa, my property manager, will meet and greet you at her office in Samara. Then she will escort you up the rugged semi-private road to Casa Libre. She will show you around the house and orient you to the area. She will answer whatever questions you may have, hand you the keys and then leave you in peace. She will also be available to contact if assistance is needed or to connect you with local adventure tours.
Awaken to to the calls of howler monkeys and the songs of many tropical bird species. Cooled by tropical sea breezes, view nature in all its splendor in every direction from the veranda, pool area or rooftop pavillion, while sipping your coffee or doing your morning yoga. Take the 5-minute drive to Samara or the 10-minute drive to Carrillo or even the 30-minute drive to the world-renowned surfing beaches of Guiones or Nosara. Spend the day swimming... surfing... zip-lining... hiking... fishing... paddle-boarding... snorkeling... horseback riding... playing beach volleyball... or investigating the local nature preserves and then, return home, relax and sip your evening drinks by the infinity pool. Interaction with guests:Â You will be met by Melissa, my property manager in Samara. She will greet your party and lead you to the house. Once there, Melissa will show you around the house and property, orient you to the area, answer your questions, hand you the keys and provide you with her contact information should any needs arise. Then she'll leave you to your own devices.
We had a great 5 week stay at Casa Libre. Our family of 5 (2 adults and 3 kids 5-11) had a wonderful time at Casa Libre. It is about a 7 minute drive to town. The house has two spacious bedrooms with en suite bathrooms. It also has an extra little room that we used as an office. The pool and outdoor area was really fantastic. You are looking out at an awesome view of mountains from the pool. The pool is not heated but was very comfortable. This house is surrounded by nature. From every window and corner of the property, you are looking at trees an mountains. The kitchen is fully stocked. We cooked a lot of meals at home. Everything seems fairly new from the appliances to the pots/pans/knives. The bedrooms and living room all have A/C and fans so we were super comfortable. Highly recommend!

Perfect Costa Rica vacation
This is A beautiful home with two master bedrooms that both open onto a wide covered veranda that overlooks the pool, cabana & Pacific. The home has a huge well appointed kitchen, and large living dining room. The long driveway is a little challenging. Would suggest renting a 4 wheel drive SUV. We had one and had no trouble with the road.
Samara is a great little town, there are many nearby beaches and restaurants.

Playas (beaches) Samara and Carrillo are extraordinary. They are only a few miles apart, but they couldn't be too much more different from eachother. Samara is lively beach with water sports of all sorts and lined with all kinds of restaurants, volleyball courts, surf schools and yoga studios. Carrillo is a peacefully undeveloped beach, lined with palm trees and defined by reef tidal pools at each end. There is a vast array of restaurants (more than 40) and shops in Samara, but Carrillo has remote resorts in the hills.
Getting around
Throughout Costa Rica it is always advisable to use a 4-wheel drive vehicle, though locals often travel by foot, bus and motorcycle. That enables travellers to get around without inconvenience as well as to explore the more out of the way locations where hidden natural gems are to be found.

How to get there
While guests may decide to choose San Jose, the preferred airport to reach Samara is the International airport in Liberia, Costa Rica. It is less congested, more modern, and less than half the distance away. Car rentals are usually less expensive there, as well. It is fairly direct and less than a 2-hour drive along paved roads until you reach Samara. You'll meet Melissa at her office in town and she'll lead the way up the Santo Domingo road to the curvacious 1/4 mile private road to Casa Libre. (A 4-wheel drive vehicle is recommended.)
