Most hill stations in India, today, are a crowded mess. “Tranquility in the Himalayas” lives up to its name. Located on a non-descript road, a short distance from the Chail-Kufri road, Tranquility offers what one would expect from a stay in the hills; beautiful views, quiet surroundings, chirping birds, verdant meadows, glowing sunsets and leafy trails. The three rooms are spacious with windows that offer uninhibited views of surrounding hills and valleys. A small climb from the cottage leads to an untouched meadow which is an excellent spot for viewing sunsets. There are many trails close by through thickly wooded forests. Local guides are easy to find to lead one through these trails. For those, who may want a little more than mere peace and quiet, Kufri and Shimla are only a small drive away.
Dilshad and his lieutenants are formidable house keepers and skilled in their arts: The cooking of paranthas, batooras, pakoras, kebabs, mutton, chicken and daal have been raised to a high art. Tea, coffee and snacks are served at a short notice. The rooms are cleaned with clinical efficiency. The terrace is a perfect spot for having breakfast and an evening drink. For those like me, living in the haze of Delhi, who have forgotten that there are stars in the skies, drinking time in the evening is the perfect occasion to rest one’s head on a chair and count the stars.
A review of Tranquility cannot be complete with a mention of the hosts, Arati and Raja. Without ever intruding, they take care of every need. They are warm and their small gestures turn this b&b into a perfect home. They somehow come to know of the guests’ smallest discomfort and help is offered swiftly and without display: a quiet message, a small gift, a complimentary picnic, a courtesy pickle, a ride to the town.
My family and I would strongly recommend Tranquility
