It's a cosy apartment very close to downtown. One uses to compare the neighbourhood of Santa Teresa to Montmartre, in Paris. It's the most portuguese neighbourhood in Brazil. It' s located on the hills and accessfull to several other neighbourhoods from downtown to the south part ot the city ('Zona Sul').
The classic Santa Teresa's tram pass in front of the building. It takes you in 10 minutes to Carioca Square (Largo da carioca) where you can easily take the subway to everywhere (Copacabana, Ipanema, Leblon, etc)
It is also very close to Lapa (you just go down for 700m), full of pubs, restaurants and live Brazilian music.
If you walk upwards you will find good restaurants and interesting souvenirs stores.
