The Gion House has opened on October 2011, and a traditional Japanese 'machiya' is located smack in the center of Gion. The Gion House was designated Gion historic district building by Kyoto City Government. The Gion House was built in 1892, and was completely restored under the supervision of Kyoto City Government, and it was stand up for historical Gion principle. It is rented an entire house. Our quests may come and go freely, using the house as their own.

We arrived on 21 November 2016 and stayed for 4 nights. It was a 10-15 minute walk from Kiyomizu-gojo station and it would be easier if you have WIFI and a google map to help you get there on your first day. Pros: 1) Charming, clean and well maintained machiya - a great chance to experience living in an olden styled house 2) Wonderful self-filling tub for soaking 3) Useful instructions provided by the owner...

The 4 of us stayed here for 5 nights. The house is about 10mins+ walk from Kiyomizu-Gojo Station...we had no problem finding the place. Interior is clean and the small kitchen is well equipped for simple cooking. We particularly like the washer dryer upstairs. Put in our clothes to wash before we leave and return with clean clothes ready to wear again...and smells great too. Sleeping mattress provided can be flipped to soft or hard...

This property is close to several temples, shrines, gardens, restaurants, and much more. It was a great place to relax after a long day of exploring. We walked everywhere, but you can rent out bikes or catch a taxi outside the house. For anyone who decides to bring their kids or if you are the type who...
