Waterland is located in a tranquil part of Negombo 4 kilometers from the main touristic area. Waterland is a private oasis for the modern explorer. It is ideally suited for guests looking for an escape from built-up touristic areas.
It is an an area of tremendous natural beauty at the meeting point of a canal and a river. A secluded beach on the Indian Ocean is a 5-minute down the lane.
Ours is a neighborhood of locals, not tourists.
Waterland is a great choice for those who like boutique hotels off the beaten track. It is NOT a good choice for those who like to be among other tourists and within walking distance of bars and restaurants.
Getting around
We have 6 bicycles on site that are free for guests to use. We have identified 2 bicycle routes (a short route and a longer route). A handout with the bike routes is located next to the reception desk.
We have maps showing the location of Waterland by the reception desk and there are signs with directions to Waterland around Negombo.
The front desk staff can arrange local transportation by air-conditioned car, air-conditioned van, or by 3-wheeler/tuk-tuk for you. The prices are posted on a board next to the reception desk. The prices are very inexpensive by western standards, but are a bit higher than what others sometimes charged. We trust the drivers we work with and the prices ensure them a decent wage.
