The third bedroom, suitable for adults or a group of children, comprises a main bedroom with a Queen-sized bed and a single bed, an attached smaller room with a single bed which could be used by more children or the nanny and has an attached bathroom with open to sky rain shower. This bedroom has two single beds and one Queen-sized double bed.
Old Clove House is in a lush, verdant beautifully landscaped garden, and is very peaceful and tranquil, but just minutes from the beaches, making it a great base to explore the beaches of the South of Sri Lanka, and Galle Fort/ town.
Old Clove House is perfect for a large group, be it family or a group of friends.
Guests will have access to the entire house and are expected to treat the house as they would their own.
There is high-speed WiFi connection, with satellite TV offering all premium channels and the latest Bose SoundLink Bluetooth Speaker III which guests can stream any music of their choice from any of their smart devices via Bluetooth and enjoy superlative sound quality.
There is an in-house cook who will prepare all meals for guests as required.
We take great pride in the high standard of the meals served at Old Clove House and endeavour to provide our guests with a very memorable dining experience whilst staying at Old Clove House.
All food and beverages prepared and consumed at Old Clove House are at cost with no mark-ups. Old Clove House is your home for the duration of the rental and you are not expected to pay any more for food and drinks consumed than when you're at your own home.
The head houseboy and two additional younger houseboys attend to housekeeping duties, guests' welfare and will also assist with guests' laundry if required.
The staff is highly valued and work very hard with integrity and honesty and we only expect that they are well tipped if guests are happy with their service. Previous guests have been extremely happy with the dedicated service of this hardworking team.
Pets are allowed and welcome and smokers are not discriminated against.
Wonderful Hospitality and Colonial Comfort in the Clove House
We stayed here two years ago and this review is well overdue (!) and we hope the staff are still the same. Our family of 5 ( 3 boys between the ages of 8 - 13 at the time) stayed at the Old Clove House for 5 nights over the Chinese New Year.
On our return home we suffered withdrawal symptoms, missing the wonderful hospitality of the Old Clove House, its owner Tai and his team, headed by Kumara. From the moment we arrived after a rather gruelling trip, Tai and his team looked after us.
Old Clove House is a beautifully renovated plantation house located down a quiet road just off the main strip and within easy walking distance from Widjaja Beach where we swam late afternoons. On arrival and after each daily trip we were welcomed by an "Ayubowan", a cool face towel and sometimes treated to a lime and soda before we entered the acre of lush verdant garden. Each morning and afternoon we were treated to a chorus of monkeys and their jungle antics that added to our enjoyment of the place and the sense of escapism. Given that we arrived during the Cricket World Cup we had bought a cricket set and Tai's staff humoured our children and us by playing late afternoon cricket with the boys each afternoon which was one of their highlights. Old Clove House has all the pros of a 5 star boutique hotel complete with a fabulous chef Cjami and house boys Dinesh and Sahara who kept the house shipshape during our stay. Cjami's western and Sri Lankan food was some of the best we have had during our two trips to Sri Lanka.
The 4 poster beds were a dream to sleep in and the house has enough living spaces to provide a nice place for all to unwind or curl up with a book. The deep pool was also well suited for adults and older children to enjoy. We had another family of 5 who joined us for the final 3 days and the Old Clove House was able to accommodate us very comfortably. Thank you Tai and your team for a wonderful stay.
