Absolutely would Stay here again!
This was a perfect place. The location was great as we could walk everywhere! The space was beautiful and Ximena even provided some groceries to get us started, answered all our questions, helped us get taxis for our island tour, and even made us brownies for the new year! There were spices and paper products provided and amazing housekeeping! The pool and the hammocks on the porches were so inviting! We didn’t want to leave.

Lovely accommodations
Our family of 6 - 2 adults and 4 children ( ages 7, 10, 11 and 12) stayed in the 3 storey home. It was clean, well outfitted, spacious, and very accommodating with a full bathroom on each floor. Ximena was very welcoming, friendly and helpful. She called us taxis and called our day-tour companies twice to confirm the pick-up times. The kids had a great time swimming in the pool in the evenings, lounging on all of the floors, and watching television (they’re fluent in Spanish; the tv is Spanish only and I couldn’t find any stations with sub-titles for myself and my husband!). The kitchen is completely outfitted and has a large fridge. My only suggestion for Charles would be to add additional lighting in the kitchen as in the evening it is a tad dark but obviously we managed. The cottages are safe and secure, a gated small community comprising the four homes. It’s in a great location and we had an absolutely wonderful stay! Perfect.

Lovely Bungalows
We stayed 7 nights in one of Charly's cottages. It was wonderful. The buildings are very spacious and extremely clean. A maid comes everyday and takes care of everything. We stayed in a two storey cottage and each of us had her own bathroom. The kitchen provides everything you need to cook. The centre of the compound is the pool which provides for a great place to relax. Another big advantage is the proximity to the trail to Tortuga Bay. It's really the nicest beach around and it's a great opportunity to go for a run. I also enjoyed the fact that it is located in the more quiet area of the town, still it's only 10 minutes walk to all the restaurant and shops. On top Charly and the whole family are super helpful and concerned about the well-being of their guest. I can highly recommend to stay there.

Best rental in Puerto Ayora
We loved our stay at the Galapagos Cottages. Jorge and Charley we great help and we promise ourselves to come back. The cottages are very nicely designed, perfectly located on the outskirt of Puerto Ayora, the last house on the way to Tortuga Bay, 2,5km away. restaurants are just two blocks away. We highly recommend this place.

About the neighborhood
You have to get to Ecuador mainland first. There are two international airports in Quito (UIO) and Guayaquil (GYE). There are several direct non-stop flights from New York, Houston and Miami to Quito and Guayaquil every day. American Airlines and United / Continental are the main US carriers but DELTA and other airlines fly as well. The main Latin American Carriers are LAN, TACA. Iberia has daily flights from Madrid. KLM flies to Quito and Guayaquil as well.

Most flights arrive late in the afternoon or in the evening. You will most definitely need to spend a night in Quito or Guayaquil before flying to the Galapagos Islands the next day. There are several hotel and transfer options. We can arrange those for you, just contact us.

Flights to the Galapagos depart from Quito or Guayaquil. There are two main airports in the Galapagos Islands, one in Baltra (serves Puerto Ayora in Santa Cruz Island) and one in San Cristobal. There are many flights a day. TAME, AeroGal and LAN are the main carriers. Flights to the Galapagos take about two hours, our Tip Top Travel Lufthansa City Center agency in Quito can arrange flights for you.

The way out process is very similar. You will need to fly from the Galapagos (usually before 12pm) and have a transfer – hotel night in Quito or Guayaquil to take an early flight out the next day. If you can book an international flight leaving after 7pm you might be able to save that night in the mainland.

How to get there
When you arrive in San Cristobal the transfer to Puerto Baquerizo Moreno (the town) is very simple. Many taxis are available and it will take you about USD 1 to get to your destination. On the other hand, the transfer from Baltra to Santa Cruz Island and then Puerto Ayora can be a little more complicated.

Most tour operators organize transportation but if you need to get from Baltra to Puerto Ayora there are some steps you will need to take.
Find a bus with the sign “Canal”. This bus is free (provided by the airline) and will take you to the Itabaca Channel. Make sure your luggage is properly stored under the bus and take your hand luggage or delicate items with you. Do not take a bus with the sign Muelle, this bus will take you to the dock where live-aboards and naturalist cruises dock. If you are enrolled in one of those, look for a representative of your tour company. They will be there to meet you.

The bus ride to the Baltra side of “Canal de Itabaca” takes about 10 minutes. Once there you will have to board a crossing ferry or “Barcaza” as we know them. The ferries take the luggage on top so make sure you place it there. Take your hand luggage or delicate items with you as well. Crossing the Itabaca Channel is quite short but the barcazas often take longer to cash everyone with the 50 – 80 cents the crossing is worth. Be very careful when arriving and de-boarding the ferry. Many people have slipped and fell in this maneuver.

Once in the Santa Cruz side of the Itabaca Channel you will have two options for the 40 kilometer drive to Puerto Ayora. Buses and taxis are available. Buses are definitely slower but charge USD 1.80 for the transfer. Taxis are faster but a private one will charge about USD 18. Taxis take up to five people. Locals often choose to slit the taxi fee with someone they know.

If you arrive by taxi to Puerto Ayora, the drives will require a drop off place. Make sure you know your accommodation's name or location. If arriving by bus you will find the last stop is close to the peer. You can orient yourself from there or take a taxi (USD 1) to the place where you will be staying.

The return trip is very much the same.
