After having been together and traveled a whole lot for more than five years, we got married and booked a honeymoon in September 2020. We live in Bangkok, and did not want to leave Thailand for our honeymoon. We will forever think back on an absolutely wonderful stay at The Headland, although I hope to return!
While I was exploring a few different options for the honeymoon, interacting with Dean about the villa and booking was such an honest, open and clear process that halfway through my selection process I just went ahead and booked the villa. My wife (!) will tell you this doesn't happen very often.
Koh Samui airport is a great airport to travel through, and a short walk from our arrival gate we met with our driver who got us to The Headland in under an hour. We were met at the front gate by Lek and Oy, who welcomed and walked us to the villa for the first time. I had seen videos, but was blown away by the real thing. My wife, Som, thought we were staying in a hotel so imagine her surprise when we walked up to the villa. Up a few steps, you see a 12m pool and sun beds and a pile of towels emerge. You walk past the pristine white bed rooms, the insane rain showers in the en-suite bathrooms, across the patio, you spot the barbecue, and walk into the main villa that houses a big sofa, dining table and awesome kitchen. Then it clicks, this is just for us! And as you are trying to come to terms with that, you stroll around and you see the view. The view. Oh wow, what a view. Som was absolutely blown away and later told me she struggled controlling her emotions. What an incredible start to our stay!
It was just the two of us. And so a villa that can accommodate 8 seems a little over the top. This was a concern for me when I booked. But quite frankly, the layout is such that it actually scales quite well for less than the maximum of 8 guests. The layout is such that the unused beds don't stick out at all. Despite the size, we felt we were staying in a secluded and intimate villa, surrounded by nature and with complete privacy.
The on-site team ensured everything was kept in perfect condition. Lek was a wonderful help during our stay and advised and helped us arrange a number of things. Oy made us breakfast and cleaned the villa twice daily, Rum and Long helped and we always enjoyed the chat with Day, the night watchman at the gate of the property, upon return in the evening. The whole team was perfect in discretely delivering what we needed, without imposing. It was the exact perfect amount of attention for us. But if you want full-time staff in the villa, or a chef for the meals, just talk to Dean or Lek and they will make it happen!
Staying in a private villa is an incredible experience that we highly recommend. During our adventures across the island, we'd stop for a coffee or lunch at five star resorts and asked to see their villas. And while we saw some very nice properties, nothing matched what we had 'back home' at The Headland. I never have desire for 3am room-service, so the privacy and lush greenery of the villa combined with the view. Oh wow, what a view. Wait, did I already mention that? It's worth mentioning again.
Dress up and go to the Air Bar nearby for sunset drinks, down to the beach for lunch, do a local evening at the i-Talay restaurant just down the road. Don't miss out on the floating net seats at Coco Tam's if thats your sort of place. There is a french bakery called Le Kiosque just 10 minutes away that is absolutely fantastic. Drive around the island as there is just so much to see and do everywhere.
Our time at the villa was an absolute dream. Waking up to the smell of breakfast, spending the morning slowly waking up in the pool, exploring the island for a few hours in the afternoon, relaxing with a bottle of wine at sunset and some nice music. And repeat this until desired effect of total relaxation is achieved.
Don't hesitate. Just book this place.
