Eh
This place isn't worthy of a five star review. It's a large house on the beach and that's about it. Victoria House and Ramon's Village are five star properties and this place doesn't come close. It's obvious that the owner hasn't been here in years. The place needs a complete paint job inside and out. There was so much trash on the beach and on the property that I could have filled up two leaf bags and almost did because I couldn't stand looking at it. There's also a huge pile of trash on the property next to the run down gazebo. There's no pest control. I watched a stream of ants and "no-see-ums" crawling up the wall at the dinner table. I woke up to have a gecko crawling on the wall next to my bed and Maria had to come and remove a bat that was in one of the rooms. The house is off the beaten path and you have to drive down a pot-holed dirt road with lots of litter and debris to get to the house. Not exactly inviting when your coming and going. The WIFI password was incorrect on their in-house laminated pamphlet and the tv's had two remotes which were impossible to figure out. Maria saved the day again, but why should she have to? If you like sleeping in a dark room, forget it. The curtains barely kept out the exterior moonlight. The staff however, was superb. All of our meals were cooked right there in the kitchen and the food was good. Not gourmet, but good. They were also flexible with our eating schedules. If we wanted breakfast at 7:00 a.m. then breakfast was ready at 7:00 a.m. The only reason I give this place a three is because the house was a two star and the staff was a five star, so the blended rating is a three star.

Wonderful!
The Casa Tortuga is a lovely home. Fishing and diving pickups at the dock. The ladies in charge of cooking are top notch. We hope to come back. Cheers Don Evans

Wonderful getaway
We met a group of friends that had arrived a couple of days earlier than us. They had occupied all of the rooms of the Villa so we stayed in the adjoining Pelicans Nest. The Pelicans Nest is a stand alone building with a second story living area. The place was gorgeous. It consisted of a large very well appointed living room that appeared to be furnished mostly with antiques, a full kitchen area and an ocean view balcony, a bedroom and a bathroom. In addition, the third floor consisted of an opened air patio with seating and stairs that lead to a fourth floor that is an opened area with a wonderful view of the ocean on one side and San Pedro on the other. It would have been easy to spend the entire trip in the room if we had chosen to do so. The Pelicans Nest included all of the amenities that come with the Villa. We hung out with our friends in the pool and on the dock and ate Marie's wonderful cooking for most of our meals. Maria even brought us nacho's a couple of times when we were hanging out at the pool. The Villa was well cared for and even had a gardener that raked the sea weed off of the beach and the palm leaves from the yard every morning. There is also a large outdoor chess set, a volleyball court and several hammocks. The Villa and Pelicans Nest have everything that you could need for a wonderful vacation. Some take aways on Belize in general: Maria will set you up with Suya Tours for snorkeling and other trips, use them, they are inexpensive and knowledgeable and pick you up right at the dock. We took Tropic Air from Belize City to San Pedro, it's a smooth 13 minute flight with a 15 minute taxi ride to the Villa. If you can, make your reservations ahead of time to save money. The Belizean Dollar is valued 2 to 1 to the US$, every thing is marked in Belizean dollars. So that $30 bottle of wine is only $15 in US$, I found this out the hard way. The American Dollar is accepted everywhere. While I'm on money, the touristy shops in the touristy areas take credit cards, we traveled into Belmopan for a few days after leaving the Villa and no place in land took credit cards and ATM's are hard to find. Enjoy your trip!

Living the Lifestyle of the Rich and Famous
Our visit to Casa Tortuga exceed all expectations. From the moment we arrived, Maria was there to take care of our every need. She is a fabulous cook who created delicious island inspired meals from scratch everyday. She actually had the gardener cut a coconut from one of the trees on the property to make a delicious coconut cream pie. The table was set with beautiful china, crystal, placemat, napkins and napkin rings each meal...............and everyday was different. Having a private beach and pool was such a treat. We spent time in the afternoon lounging in the hammocks under the palm trees or floating in the pool. The casa is very well appointed with a colonial British theme. It reminded me of Raffles hotel in Singapore. It is easy to see that this property is owned by an interior decorator with no detail overlooked. Each bedroom is like staying in a suite at a high end boutique hotel. We enjoyed sitting on the deck drinking wine and watching the beautiful sunset. We walked on the beach to town everyday to try to work off the delicious food. I highly recommend Casa Tortuga!!

What a great place
If you're going to San Pedro, Ambergris Caye, Belize, Casa Tortuga is a wonderful place to stay. I rented the house for a group of 14 friends and we had a really great stay. There was plenty of room for all of us, and the house was charming, clean and comfortable. The pool was perfect, we spent a lot of time there. Before our stay, the hostess, Margaret, took the time to provide us with tons of local tips and suggestions for transportation, excursions and adventures. She answered all of my questions quickly and thoroughly. Upon our arrival, the onsite caretaker, Maria, and her team were fantastic. Maria was always there to help if we needed anything (she even loaned one of our guests a fishing pole to fish off the end of the dock). The food she and her team prepared throughout the week was absolutely amazing. I feel spoiled after a week at Casa Tortuga, and readjusting to real life today is rough--craving pina coladas, conch fritters, and another slice of homemade key lime pie!

What a fabulous vacation!
My 3 sisters and I spent a week at Casa Tortuga Villa on Ambergris Caye. Booking was very easy and Peggy Mason , the owner, was great to work with. She provided advance information and was available to answer question quickly. This Villa is perfect for a group that needs to spread out. I will probably mention several times in this review Maria, the very talented cook and gracious hostess, that comes with the rental. The Villa is a far better option than staying at a resort hotel. Travel to Ambergris was fairly easy. Non-stop flight from DFW and then a 12 minute 12 seater puddle jumper to the island. We chose Tropic Air due to schedule and reputation. We actually got a group discount with 4 ppl. Our flight was delayed due to weather and they accommodated us on another flight that stopped at Caulker Caye. Your luggage is ready quickly and cabs are plentiful. The Villa is a 10-15 min ride. You may want to stop at LC Distributors which is on the way so you can pick up beer, wine and spirits. Good sectional and good prices. Maria will greet you at the villa and show you around the two floors so you can pick out your rooms. The rooms were spacious, decorated with collectible furniture, clean and nice soft linens. They do a cleaning service daily. The bedrooms are air conditioned. Your get a feel for the quality of cooking on your first night and with breakfast in the morning. We had to start skipping lunch because we were eating so well!! The kitchen has a great cold and hot water dispenser. Consider bringing a good water bottle and you will save on plastic usage. The breezes this time of year were wonderful and we spent time on the both the upstairs and downstairs verandas. The pool is very nice and well maintained. Maria will rent a golf cart for you and have it waiting at the villa. We explored the town. Be sure to check out the Belize Chocolate Factory, a nice chocolate shop and try to eat the homemade Popsicle (Paletas) at Las Paletas just down the street from the villa. We did eat one meal out. Lunch at Victoria House, just a short ride from the villa. The Victoria House has a nice spa but Maria arranged for in home massages for us. They set up on the veranda and the masseuses were highly skilled and very reasonable cost wise! Carlos, from Suya Tours who is two docks down from the villa, came by and gave us great activity options. We chose to do a private snorkeling and bbq lunch trip. He picked us up on our dock. Our guides speared the fish for lunch and we ate at Suya's private beach. The snorkeling was better is some places than others and the current can be a bit challenging but we had fun. We also booked a sunset boat tour and brought some chilled wine. We thought it would be fun to explore Secret Beach. Carlos questioned that but our guides took us. It was interesting to see the leeward side of the island but I would skip secret beach unless your into a cramped and some what trashy spring break vibe. Carlos has several excursion options. The Sargassum grass was pretty thick on the windward side of the island during our visit but it did not bother us since we had the pool to lounge in. I am not sure what time of year it actually goes away. Ambergris Caye is for kicking back and total relaxation. The people are warm, friendly and happy that you are there. Did I mention Maria ;) Her food and hospitality were outstanding!!!

Phenominal Family Vacation!!
Our family spent Christmas holidays at this beautiful home in Belize and enjoyed it immensely. We ranged in ages from 1 year to 75 and there was something for everyone to experience. Being right on the beach and having a pool were ideal. We did fishing trips, visited Mayan sites, swam every day in the pool, and did some snorkeling near the reef. Bedrooms and baths were luxurious and super clean, the patios were great hangout places, and there were plenty of lounging areas outside so all could relax. And then there was Maria!!!!! She has to be the best cook in Belize!! She and her lovely assistants made wondrous meals to please all our crew from the babies to the vegans to the meat guys. And all with such flair and surprising flavors that meals became an added highlight of our trip. Thank you, thank you, thank you for making this a memorable holiday for all of us!!

Can't wait to go back!
I found Casa Tortuga through different reviews as we were looking for a wedding venue. We decided to have our wedding at Casa Tortuga and it turned out to be more than I could have imagined. The property is beautiful, Maria and her team were amazing. Our guests and the wedding guests LOVED it. About a month before our wedding we decided to take the advice of Ms. Mason, the owner, and have Maria cook our wedding supper. Although I was nervous as she had not catered a 65 person wedding the food was INCREDIBLE! I would have regretted not having Maria cook our meal. People are still talking about it. Our wedding planner was Melody with Dulce Belize weddings and she was also fantastic. Everything was beyond everything I had ever dreamt of. I have traveled to San Pedro multiple times and I highly recommend this property in San Pedro. If you are getting married, contact Melody!

Truly Magnificent
We have just returned from Casa Tortuga Villa with 8 Friends, February 10-17th. An extraordinary villa, beautiful pool, the meals all prepared for by Maria and her staff were truly gourmet. Every detail has been attended to for our pampered visit. Our boating guide, Carlos, who took us on guided snorkelling and fishing trips, all great fun, was excellent. This trip to The villa was exceptional. Sincerely, Lynda Bertrand

Casa Tortuga is a beautiful and amazing rental villa
One of my best friends invited us to Casa Tortuga last month. The spacious house has 5 bedrooms, 4 with their own bathrooms and is beautifully decorated with amazing antiques throughout. The 2 verandas and pool area have plenty of comfortable chairs, rockers and loungers. There is a staff that comes with the house, including a cook, but I would better call Maria a chef! The food, three meals a day if you so desire, was unbelievable. We had fresh local fruit every morning with cooked to order breakfasts and a fabulous array of fresh seafood prepared in many different ways for dinner. Of course the lobster tails, fresh fish and shrimp were decadent. If you are looking for the ultimate pampered leisure vacation, this is the place to come.......total relaxation and tranquility.

About the neighborhood
Casa Tortuga is located south of the cut on Ambergris Caye making it much easier to access town then the properties north of the cut. Town is a 5 minute ride by taxi or golf cart and bicycles are available at the villa as well. Casa Tortuga's 250 feet of beachfront overlooks the second largest Barrier Reef in the world which is less than a mile off the island. Our guide Carlos can pick you up from our dock for fishing, snorkeling, scuba diving, and excursions to see the Mayan ruins and the mainland.
