What a fantastic house! One hour after arrival we were greeted by a large group of Capuchins travelling through the forest using the roof of the house. Also, squirrel monkeys, spider monkeys are frequently visiting the garden. The house is spacious, fully equipped en very comfortable. If you ever consider visiting Cabo Matapalo and enjoy wildlife, this place is highly...

We loved the house and the view from the balcony. Beautiful woodwork throughout. The main room is larger than it looks in the photos. We did not see mosquitoes. We had Melanie cook a meal for us and it was delicious. The yoga classes were a real plus. We enjoyed watching the monkeys from the balcony. My wife and daughters...

For one of my parents' milestone wedding anniversaries we decided to get all of the siblings together & take a trip - 2 parents in their 50s and 5 20-somethings consisting of children & their significant others. We had not all traveled extensively together before - and each of us had different ideas of what a "vacation" should look like....

About the neighborhood
While we enjoy Rio Carbonera to the South, and Rio Escoela Carbonera to the North, we face Golfo Dulce to our East, and enjoy being in the neighborhood of Buena Esparenza Bar-Restaurant and Escoela Carbonera to the West. The area is known as Cabo Matapalo, and we are located on the North end of it. We are 1/4 mile off the public road, on a beach path access road. We have parking for up to four vehicles. The area attracts many yogis and their students for retreats as well as eco-tourists.
The wildlife is abundant and there are waterfalls, pristine beaches and hiking trails.
Cabo Matapalo functions as a wildlife refuge, because it is eight miles off the grid of electricity.
Getting around
Many visitors of our Casa Dos Rios rent a car for getting around the area. There is a public transit bus called a collectivo...truck...for going to Puerto Jimenez or to Carate (end of the road and a corridor into Corcovado National Park). Taxis are readily available and many people use this option.
Car advised
How to get there
Airport: Pto. Jimenez: 11.2 mi
Ferry: Pto. Jimenez: 11.2 mi
Most people fly into Pto. Jimenez from San Jose, then rent a car or have a taxi waiting for them (arranged by the staff at Casa Dos Rios). Some people arrive by bus into Pto. Jimenez, then hire a taxi for the trip from there to Cabo Matapalo. We recommend either flying into Pto. Jimenez and renting a car, or renting a car in San Jose and driving here. It takes approx. 8 hours to get all the way to the house, using this last option.
Activities nearby
Fishing Nearby, Horse Riding Nearby, Watersports Nearby, Nearest Beach: 0.0 mi.
