My wife and I visited with 4 children ranging from 2-9. It has 2 proper bedrooms and 2 living spaces- the bigger and more pleasant being upstairs with the great views. This is an ideal rental for anyone looking for a holiday in the mountains in a very quiet location (in a tiny Hamlet in a no through road); walking,...

5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 23, 2016 for a stay in July 2016

We just finished 3 weeks at Le Pichet. Our host, Eleri Munday, was fabulous. The gite is a little stone cottage high on a mountainside, with a garden with mountaintop views -- perfect for a late afternoon pastis or BBQ. The road up to Le Pichet is a little daunting at first, but one gets used to it. The kitchen...

We stayed at Eleri's beautiful house for two weeks and didn't want to leave. Superb walking in the surrounding hills, wonderful views, fantastic food in the local villages. Eleri's charming house is roomy and well equipped - ideal for one or two couples. In the good weather the garden was perfect for long days with a book. Eleri was the...

Management response:

Thank you very much for your kind comments, also for your lovely words in our "livre d'or". It was such a pleasure to have you - our first guests from Australia- as our "neighbours", always smiling and so hugely appreciative of everything in the area. We were especially delighted that you enjoyed the garden and our favourite restaurant in Oust...

Additional amenities & feature info
"Le Pichet" is built, as are many houses in the region, partly into the hillside. It adjoins "La Carrette", the former farmhouse which we now also own. Lovingly restored over the past 20 years it retains as many of the original features as possible - the "pas de oiseaux" originally built for thatching purposes, and the beams of the old roof structure. It is tastefully and comfortably furnished, largely in oak, and Rodney's sculptures and paintings, together with Eleri's embroideries provide a personal and homely touch.
The house benefits from superb light, particularly in the afternoons and evenings in the downstairs dining room and upstairs rooms. The ground floor consists of a spacious dining room, bathroom and well equipped kitchen; a... more

Additional Rate and Availability Information
The rate published is for 7 persons and is the rate for renting 2 bedrooms and the lounge/living room.(See interior description details). Outside school holiday periods we do however offer however a reduced rate for 2-4 persons, and for 2 persons only, of one bedroom ( the 'chalet') and the lounge/living room. (2-4 people may of course still choose the greater comfort of choosing the option for 7, leaving the lounge free to be used only as such. This high-ceilinged, light room is a delight particularly in summer). These lower rates for apply only in low/mid-season, and are particularly good value for those able to take their break outside the main holiday periods, such as March-June, Sept-Nov; or for off-peak winter ski-ing at nearby Guzet. PLease see advert 4289166 for rates and periods of availibility.
Payment is through the holiday lettings automatic booking system. A deposit of 25% is requested on booking to secure the reservation; the balance to be paid 6 weeks befo...

About the neighborhood
Locally, the pretty villages of Oust and Seix supply all needs. Both have small but well-stocked supermarkets, and we can particularly recommend the butchers in Oust and the bakers in both places. For those wishing to eat out, there is an excellent selection of restaurants specialising in regional cuisine - among which the "Bar du Garbet" in Oust is outstanding. The town of St.Girons, with a large selection of shops, supermarkets and restaurants, not to mention a gloriously colourful Saturday market, is 20k away.
The region excels in local cheeses and meats- in summer you can visit cheese-making demonstrations in the beautiful Bethmale valley, and in the Salat Valley children can enjoy watching donkeys being milked to produce the soap "lait d'anesse". Donk... more
Getting around
A car is essential not just for getting here but also for making the most of your stay. Public transport exists( a twice daily bus service along the valley floor to St Girons, and a 1€ bus service from St Girons to Foix) but both are confined to main roads and you will need your own steam to get to your chosen point of departure, whether it be a walk or any other activity, or siteseeing in general.
However, once here, we have also had guests for whom part of the joy of being here is by using only their feet, or a bicycle, to go anywhere else.
The beauty of Ariege lies in the fact that most of it is off the beaten track!
