River Cottage is perfect for a romantic weekend or to explore nature in complete privacy. Meander along the river bed through sandstone gorges, listen to the birds sing or just relax on the sunny wide verandah overlooking the shallow sandy river (safe for children).
The cottage is situated in a sheltered position on the banks of the river a kilometer from the main house. Built of stone and local timber this one room cottage has a large living/kitchen area with warm open fireplace and double bed at one end and a full kitchen at the other, plus a wide sunny verandah at the front and a basic, charming bathroom at the back with a large claw foot bath, shower and toilet.
This cottage sleeps a couple comfortably with a double bed, small couch (suitable for child) and a fold down day-bed on the verandah (maximum 4 people). There is also the option of camping around the cottage.
The cottage is powered by a 240 volt solar voltaic power system with gas stove & oven and gas hot water. There is also an outside wood BBQ area. A small gas BBQ can be provided on request during the fire season.
An open fireplace heats the cottage during the colder months.
Please note there is no mobile reception in the cottages and very limited on property
The River Cottage contains:
1 double and 1 single doona,
3 double blankets and 5 pillows.
A sample of farm produce (e.g. eggs and flowers depending on season)
All utensils (pots, pans, cups, glasses, plates, cutlery)
Toaster, microwave oven & espresso coffee maker and plunger
Firewood (supplied during the winter months)
One set of linen and towels provided, extra linen can be supplied for $25/double, or $5 per item, sheet/towelMore
Smoking outside the cottage permitted - please dispose of all butts in the bin provided.
Pets allowed with prior permission, but will incur an extra charge if more than one dog ($15/weekend).
Please do not stack wood inside the cottage (brings mess and creepy crawlies inside the cottage).
No guns, motor bikes or 4W driving permitted.
Wood BBQ provided (during fire bans - Gas BBQ available on request)
The River Cottage is private, peaceful, all that anyone needs to get away from the hustle and bustle of city lite. All you can hear are birds of all kinds all day.

We live on property Gleniston at the main house (at the end of Saddlers Creek Road). We encourage guests to relax, unwind and do there own thing. You are very welcome to come down to the main house for advice on walks and what to see in the general area (also information in the cottages). Any questions or problems, no matter how small, please let us know.
Goulburn River Stone Cottages are part of the property “Gleniston”, situated 50 km north of Mudgee on the headwaters of the Goulburn River, Upper Hunter Valley, NSW. The property covers an area of 872 hectares (~2000 acres) and includes large areas of native forest and bushland, with gentle creek flats rising to basalt peaks of grazing country.
There is a range of local wineries in Mudgee and heritage museum in Gulgong.
How to get there
You will need a car to get here, but leave it parked and enjoy the walks after arrival.
The cottages are 50kms north of Mudgee, 78 kms south of Merriwa and 35kms east of Gulgong. It is about 4.5 hours drive from Sydney and 3 hours drive from Newcastle.
Turn off the Ulan Cassilis Road at Saddlers Creek Road (unsealed 2WD) – our property Gleniston begins at the second gate. It is 3.5kms to the main house, 3 kms to River Cottage and 4 kms drive to Saddlers Cottage from the Ulan road, turn at the appropriately marked cottage sign.
The Cottages are set in a small clearing in open woodlands, about 1 km from the main house, and 1.5 kms from each other.
