We really enjoyed our stay over here. We only stayed two nights and wished we could have stayed longer. It was also great to meet the host Ben. It was really a pleasure talking to you.
The beachhouse is great, spacious and located next to the ocean. We loved watching the sunrise right from the living room.

Couldn't be better
My husband and our two kids spent a long weekend at Blue Seas. We absolutely loved it and didn't want to leave. The house is beautifully built and thought through - including its impact on the environment. It is simple and yet had everything we needed. With lovely views from the deck - front and back we could shelter from the wind and enjoy the wild beauty all at the same time.
The kids especially loved exploring the beach which felt like it was ours alone. We fell asleep (in very comfortable beds) to the sound of the waves and woke to sounds of birds.
This was our last weekend in South Australia after an extended stay due to Covid 19 and it couldn't have been a better finish.

Idyllic getaway
We loved this beautiful ecohouse with it's 180 degree views of the ocean and no sound but the waves and the birds - great place to get away from it all. The house is really well equipped and the owner even lit the wood fire for us when he found out we wouldn't be arriving until after dark - such a warm welcome after a long drive from Victoria. We liked that it felt so remote even though it is only half an hour from Kingscote. Would definitely come back.

Beautiful and Tranquil - Made for a great base to explore Kangaroo Island
I stayed at BlueSeas for 4 blissful days in late February. The views are amazing: the ocean from the front deck, sunsets and a very busy bird bath from the back. It's a bit off the beaten track, but everything on Kangaroo Island is within reasonable driving distance. You have to make some concessions for the house's eco-friendly design (no indulgently long showers, for example), but it's a small sacrifice to enjoy this lovely place. The owner is attentive, but not intrusive. I would definitely recommend blueseas to anyone looking for a quiet and beautiful retreat.

Perfect, Isolated Beach Retreat
Blue Seas beach house is the perfect place to stay if the only sounds you want to hear are the wind with waves gently breaking on the beach. Nestling in thick, native vegetation Blue Seas beach house peeks over the top of the bushes giving guests uninterrupted views of the sea. Sit on the deck and breathe in the sea air or stay warm inside with the wood fire and enjoy the views through the large windows.
My husband organised a surprise trip to Kangaroo Island for our wedding anniversary. We stayed four nights at Blue Seas. The weather was cold and wet (one day it struggled to get to 11 degrees), but as one of the other reviewers has remarked, anyone staying at Blue Seas should try to spend a whole day lazing around at the beach house.
The design of the house is striking with a wave-like roof and stone walls at either end. Inside guests walk on magnificent jarrah floor-boards. The colour is beautiful and as Ben pointed out, this native wood from south-west Australia is termite-proof.
The kitchen is large and well equipped. I was particularly impressed that it came stocked with herbs such as oregano, all-spice etc, though you do need to bring some cooking oil. With the barbecue on the back deck, Blue Seas is the ideal place to cook up meals using Kangaroo Island produce.
The wood fire warmed the house well. Ben (the owner) provided a good stock of wood. The house is self-sufficient, powered by solar panels and water provided from large tanks outside.
Ben provided us with hot water bottles but even though the night temperatures were cold, we were cosy under the blanket and doona provided. The only bathroom is attached to the main bedroom. When it is used during the night the light of the bathroom can wake a sleeping partner, but for the following nights we used the battery-operated tea candles provided - a safe light with a lovely ambience.
One of the lovely things about Kangaroo Island is how supportive businesses are of each other. Ben provided handwash produced by Emu Ridge - a Kangaroo Island producer of eucalyptus oil. The bathroom is well-tiled and I would imagine it would cope well with several guests washing off sand after a day at the beach. The soft stones inlaid in the floor under the shower felt nice underfoot. As this is an eco-friendly property that provides its own water, the water pressure in the shower is adequate, but not strong.
There is a short walk to the beach. This is my idea of an Australian beach - a huge stretch of sand with no-one around. We did not even see anyone else's footsteps when we walked along the sand.
Check with Ben, but I suspect Blue Seas beach house meets quite a few accessibility guidelines. There is a low-gradient ramp to the back door and the bathroom looks like it could fit a wheelchair. The lounge and kitchen are spacious so there is plenty of room for everyone. There are no rails around the verandah. While the drop is not too bad if you are expecting it, an unexpected fall could hurt. This is not a place for a drunken party and young children would need to be closely supervised.
The lounge comes equipped with a small but good range of books, magazines and games. There is also a small tv and a Blu-Ray player. It is also a great place to do a jigsaw puzzle.
We found the Optus phone signal was good at Blue Seas but there was little coverage further west on the island. Don't rely on GPS on Kangaroo Island - you need to use printed maps to navigate. Ben's instructions to the house were good. Guests have to travel several kilometres down dirt roads. Our Hyundai i30 coped with these roads. As always, drive to the conditions, so drive slowly. If you are hiring a car, make sure you are covered for travelling on dirt roads.
If you want to really experience the Australian environment, eco-friendly living and get away from it all, Blue Seas beach house is the perfect retreat for you.

Sanctuary
Blue Seas Beach House at D'Estrees Bay in winter is a lovely, secluded sanctuary for anyone who longs to immerse themselves in the peace and beauty of an Australian coastal wilderness.
My grown son and I spent a week there earlier this month, and although we explored the island a little, we were content to spend most of our time at D'Estrees Bay enjoying the beach walks and bird-life, and relaxing by the slow combustion fire reading and playing games - Ben and Ria went out of their way to bring us a brand new game of Monopoly!
We hope to return one day, and will probably choose winter again as we loved the cool, fresh days, brief showers and rainbows, overflowing lagoons and creeks, and the early wildflowers and orchids.
Kangaroo Island, and D'Estrees Bay in particular, is a place where one can escape, for a time, from all the irksome aspects of city life. I particularly found the break from traffic, crowds, and litter a relief.

Blueseas Bliss...
What a magical place this is...complete peace and space within this rugged landscape.
From our initial contact with Ben it has been plain sailing and a pleasure to deal with him.
Ben attended to our every need, and it was reassuring to know he wasn't to far away should we need anything.
Blueseas is a beautiful home, completely off grid but with all the home comforts.
It is remote and to access this home is on unsealed roads, be prepared for a few bumps along the way.
The absolute peace and quiet is stunning, only the sound of the sea and the diverse range of birds. We could walk for hours and ever see a soul, agreat place if you need that detachment for our electronic busy world.
Thanks Ben for a memorable stay, we hope to return in the future.

Clean, comfortable, simple and stylish allowing the stunning surrounds to star at all times.
In celebration of my partner's 50th birthday we stayed at Blue Seas for 8 nights, lots of information is provided to assist exploring the island The stunning surrounds often stopped us in our tracks with a superb wall of windows allowing us to witness an ever changing seascape. The beach house is a beauty, simple yet sophisticated and easy to live in and a minutes wander along the track to the beach. The kitchen was perfect to cook all the wonderful local produce procured during the day. Try to have one day without leaving the beach house to let the relaxation soak into your bones. D'estrees Bay is fantastic for for long walks on the beach, we walked for 4 hours and didn't see another soul. The remote position is such a positive, encouraging you to live a simple existence in line with beach house and surrounds. The only negative was we had to leave.

Magic, secluded, realx by the beach
We (3 people - mid-20s/ 30s) spent 2 nights at the BlueSeas beachhouse. The place has something magic, being almost hidden in the green, but close to the beach and with basically nobody else around! The house is very nice and clean. Everything is cared to the smallest detail. All this sun powered and using only rain water. The host, Ben, was very nice and friendly, and gave us some very good tips, including on how to best drive there through the unsealed road. The location is very nice, both because D'estrees bay is a nice place not many get to see in Kangaroo Island and because it's close to many other attractions of the island. Moreover, the house it's great for looking at the sun rise on the water. We really enjoyed our time there and we hoped we could have stayed longer.

d'Estrees Bay ( population 8 ) is next to Cape Gantheaume Wilderness zone. The beach in front of BlueSeas stretches for kms in both directions with a series of beautiful beaches and walks close by. The area is mainly untouched coastal heath and is a paradise for birds and wildlife.
